Moms with wood floors in their house, question?

I wish I had carpet sometimes, so I could put DS down on the floor. I have an area rug I put him on, but there is not much room with my coffee table. I'm afraid he is not having enough tummy time,to learn to crawl. Any suggestions?

Do you have one of those activity mats? That's what I used for belly time when he was very young. He's 9 months now, and he's crawling on the hard wood floors. We have small area rugs, but nothing that he really crawls on.

ETA we also bought those foam things for the living room. But he barely goes on them, or they slide... So they were kind of a waste for us, but I hear many people love them!

Why not put him on the floor? DS scoots all over our hw floors on his butt for now, but will crawl on them once he gets the hang of it.

We just put dd on the floor and she took off! she dosnt seem to mind the hardness at all but we are in the process of redoing her room and we are putting carpet in there so she has somewhere not so hard to play.

We have hardwood too and we had a glass table... we bought an area rug that's pretty big and got rid of the glass table... Now, we put her on there and she plays with her toys. She is not quite crawling yet, but we do let her play on the hardwood too- and it does not seem to bother her. I was more nervous about it than anything thinking she would hit her head, but she has been totally fine!

I got a soft spot from BBB that worked awesome for a few months. She is 8 months now and scooting around but still stays on it most of the time. When she scoots off of it now it isnt a big deal..I was more worried when she was still unstable sitting.

I got the ABC mats when DS was about 10 months old. Before that I would just use an old comforter or blanket.

we started with a little blanket, actually the quilt from his bedding set which we would have never used otherwise... that then progressed to the quilt from my king size bed... but once he because an active crawler it was all over.. and to be honest i think he prefers the hard wood over the throw rug

Personally, I think the hardwood floors are easier for them to learn to crawl if you take their pants off. Works well for my nephew!Chat Icon PLus, I like that when he comes over, he's not picking up tons of lint and pet hair from the carpet.

that is what I bought for our floors, we have her activity mat on it and move it when we put her on her tummy or her back.
