I had 1199 insurance when I worked in non-profit about six years ago. It was fine at the time considering I was single and had no kids. From what I can remember not every one of my previous doctors took it. I believe I ended up switching around a lot. I also remember that all of my prescriptions were free. HTH.

My co-worker was 1199 at her previous job and hated it. It was very difficult to find docs that participated (b/c they pay crap) and you can't go out of the network. She needed a specialist once and the wait was months! She ended up paying out of pocket for a consult and thank goodness she didn't need surgery! I would contact all your docs to find out if they participate with 1199, if they don't I would contact local docs to see who participates and/or try to get a book of providers from 1199.
LIJ's union is 1199 and the few people that I've encountered that are in the union have said they are not happy with the health insurance. Mostly for the above reason.

What about for mental health workers? LSW? therapists? Things like that?
