How do you get short term disabilty?
Do any insurance companies cover maternity leave?

Re: Spinoff to Maternity Leave: Insurance
Usually through an employer as it can be expensive. Long Term disability insurance is much more important and you should have that in place prior to STD. You can buy your own contract and pay your premiums yourself or most employers offer it as a benefit and may pay some or all of the premium. Depending on who pays the premium will determine taxability.

Re: Spinoff to Maternity Leave: Insurance
I get STD for 6 weeks for a regular birth and 8 weeks for a c-section.
I get no paid leave from my job other than STD. It is part of our benefits package at work. I am not sure how to get it if your company doesn't offer it.

Re: Spinoff to Maternity Leave: Insurance
Our STD is based soley on your years with the company which is why I was mucho PO'd when I came back after being laid off and they didn't bridge my time!!
"You will receive two weeks of 100% of your basic weekly earnings for each full year of service. Then, you will receive 60% of your basic weekly earnings for as long as you remain disabled, up to a maximum of 26 weeks."

Re: Spinoff to Maternity Leave: Insurance
I opened an Aflac policy through my employer that provides a benefit for STD when I have a baby 6 or 8 weeks.
