At 7 years old, that girl is doing it for a feeling of comfort & love.
There are a number of other ways to express that - hugging, snuggling, etc. Time to wean IMO.
Well, and this is my issue, what coping skills are they teaching her? I agree, they need to wean and teach her how to have that feeling of comfort and love in other ways.

That is so emotionally unhealthy for those children. Weaning a BABY off of the breast is part of the natural process of separation and autonomy.

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
I just forwarded it to DH, told him that a year isn't my goal anymore, that I am moved by this mom's dedication
I try not to judge, there are worse things...but it would not be for me.

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
I saw this whole programme on TV about a year ago, its kind of taken out of context. While I don't find it disturbing, live and let live... If thats what makes them happy, more power to 'em. I actually found it more disturbing that they were happy to do with with camera people filming. Strange but hey....
Its not for me personally...I feel kind of bad for the little girl, I think attachment parenting is great (and this programme really was about attachment parenting, they did bits on EC and home schooling as well, also about a woman who breastfed twins, a couple who adopted a baby from China and the mother was hoping to breastfeed) but you do get the impression that all these comforting skills are really for the parents own comforts. Everyone wants to do what is right for their children, but you don't always know what is right! You do the very best that you can, and for these parents, they feel its the best!
One thing, which I think is a cardinal sin in life is to criticize someones parenting skills or abilities! I think you really learn this once you become a parent!
I actually found it more disturbing that they were happy to do with with camera people filming. Strange but hey....
ETA this is an article written by this woman shown in the film

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
Sorry, I find it disgusting! I have no words for that video. BF is a natural thing, but not at 5 or 7.
Okay, I read the article written by her, and I still don't understand. I don't see a reason for it. What are the benefits, when she is able to afford food to feed her kids. Just because they are taking in Breast milk and not regular (chemical filled) milk as she stated, doesn't mean they are not digesting other foods with chemical in them. So what is the difference!

I was a little bit when I first saw the video but after reading the article she wrote I say to each his own. I BF Damien till he was almost 2, he weaned himself off. I will do the same with Jaidyn. I hate when I am judged for how long I chose to do it, so I don't want to judge anyone else.

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
Im sorry I know its natural and a beautiful thing but C'mon, a 7 year old breastfeeding?????? And when she 18 and wants to be closer to her Mum, will she let her BF then. I think 7 is just way to old. And this is almost a form of child abuse, Im sure somewhere this is a big no-no.

if the kid is old enough to ask for it, he/she needs to move on to actual food!

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
I'm all for BFing - I did it with my daughter for 6 months, and it was truly a wonderful bonding experience. But, to continue to 7 years old is a problem - I think this says more about the mother's inability to let go and let her children learn self-soothing methods and gain a certain degree of independence, more than anything else. She's fulfilling her own needs, not her childrens', and that, I think is a true disservice to her children.

Re: Anyone ever see this youtube video? (re: breastfeeding)
I don't care how I sound right now, I WILL judge them because I think it's f'ing SICK for a 7 year old girl to climb on under her moms dress and feed.
For those women who said they won't judge b/c they BF'ed...well you did it for an INFANT. Much different than a what, 2nd grader??
I think its disturbing, and it actually angers me. I watch about a minute of that video before closing out of it because it disturbed me so much. That lady has ISSUES.

Yeah, I think it's sick. I felt dirty watching that, lol. I breastfed my daughters and am a huge advocate for BFing, but that is just plain wrong.
Agreed. Not "normal".

Instead of posting this on youtube, the person who shot the video should have called child services!
