Anyone ever use a professional organizer?
I am in desperate need of making better use of the space in my kitchen ... bedroom closets.. bathroom drawers.. etc...
I just really do NOT have a knack of organizing and making good use of space.
My friend who is having the same issue is considering a professional organizer but also doesn't know where to start.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever used this kind of service and has any recs!!

Re: Anyone ever use a professional organizer?
Do you have a pantry? How many cabinets do you have? What do you keep in your kitchen? Do you have fine china in the kitchen or in the dining room?
I follow the philosophy that everything needs a home. If you have a weekend. Empty the contents of the kitchen and start fresh. Clean out the cabinets. Put down new nonslip grip foam. Then see exactly what you have. Purge excess plastic containers that are broken, missing lids, discolored. I limit myself to 12 tupper ware containers (aka plastic Chinese food containers). If things that are in the kitchen that should not be, pile them in the corner to deal with them at the end of the day.
I would have two cabinets right on top or next to the dish washer with your every day dishes in the middle shelf. On the other middle shelf should be bowls, and salad plates. On the lowest shelf on one side should be small glasses and behind them, wine glasses, in the other lower shelf should be larger glasses.
On the top shelf should be things that are lesser used items.
In a drawer near the dish washer should be silver ware in one of those silverware separators. In the drawer below that should be small kitchen gadgets (measuring cups, mixing utensils, spatulas. etc.)
In a drawer near the phone I put pens, markers, post-its, tape, take out menus (in a zip lock) flashlight, contact rolodex, glass fixer.
Near the stove I have my baking dishes, pots, pans and lids.
As for a pantry: Like goes with like. Cereals, granola bars, on the left. Snacks in the middle, apple sauce, fruit cups on the right. Next shelf is tomato sauce on the left and jarred items. Pasta and rice on the right. Next shelf cans, olive oil, baking goods bottom shelf water, paper towels On the door are zip lock bags, aluminum foil, coffee, tea, etc.

Re: Anyone ever use a professional organizer?
I have : twice. Both in the city.
In some respects I think they are angels sent from heaven and then there are timesI feel they are control freaks who have moved past their family & friends to paying clients.
One of the worst things I let my p.o. Do Was switch my closet w my husband's. We never got used to it and now it's a clothing/ shoe free for all.
She did find space in my cabinets I never knew I had.
I say go for it. They are relatively inexpensive especially if you don't have the organizational gene.
