Anyone familiar with Palm Springs CA area ?
Need help and have some questions re Palm Desert / Rancho Mirage CA. Anyone been there for vacation or familiar with it ? Looking to go and rent a house in August (I know, it will be boiling hot) and will have a 2 yr old and 6 month old. Other than golfing, what is it like.

Going there next week, so I'll let you know!
As of now, I think we'll visit Joshua Tree national park, get some spa treatments, sun/pool in the early morning and evening, sleep, etc.
I think we're staying in Palm Desert.

Great, I look forward to your review !
We are still up in the air if we should go here or to our usual spot in Florida as August is supposed to be excruciatingly hot.
Have a great time and ejoy !!!

I personally wouldn't go in August - temps are usually well over 100 in August and September - but I hope you have fun! Don't forget your sunscreen!
I'm not sure what there is you can do there with young kids. I went for a weekend just with DH a few Novembers ago, and we went out to reataurants & bars, took the tram up to walk around in the snow on top of Mt. San Jacinto, took a jeep tour around the San Andreas fault, stuff like that. There are quite a few spas too, and a couple casinos.

Re: Anyone familiar with Palm Springs CA area ?
I'm back!
We had a great time and really loved it -- especially the La Quinta resort. It's HOT. Really, really, HOT, but not humid, so I think I was better off in Palm Springs than here last week.
DH and I went to the pool in the early morning and late afternoon. We did other things in the middle of the day, like take the tram ride and visit Joshua Tree national park, where temps were much lower. There's also a kids water park in the area. Every child we saw anywhere had a bracelet for the water park.
It's definitely off-season, so the resort and most stores and restaurants weren't crowded.
The biggest downfall was that you can't fly direct from Palm Springs to NY. Our connecting flight was a mess and it took us over 12 hours to get home. Alternatively, you can fly into LAX or Ontario and drive to Palm Springs.
HTH! Please feel free to FM with any specific questions.
