Anyone feel like some names are "ruined" for them?

I'm a teacher and I've had some horrific kids with names I've loved. I could never ever name my baby one of those names because I'd think of the terrible kid everytime I would say the name.

I've also known some dogs with people names - but I wouldn't want to be thinking about a dog everytime I call my child. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes totally! For me 2 of my favorite girls names have been taken by my parents dog and my S/BIL's dog! lol

And I have heard that teachers have a very hard time based on the kids they've had in class! good luck!!

Yes! MIL had three sons so all of her dog's names were girl names... most of which I really like. Booooo Chat Icon

Yes! I'm a guidance counselor and DH is a teacher, and we eliminated DOZENS of names based on past students.

Re: Anyone feel like some names are "ruined" for them?

Yes!!! This is one of the reasons that I can't finalize my name choice. One of the names I really really like is shadowed by a bratty, spoiled, self-centered girl I know. A lot of teachers I know are the same way.

Same here! Me and all of my other teacher friends have had the same problem. Poor DH kept bringing up names and I would say "no way, that reminds me of ____", Chat Icon

I teach in psych day treatment and have been verbally and physically assaulted by children whose names could have been serious considerations. Not a chance now!

Absolutely I am a daycare provider and some names just make me cringe because I associate them with whiny or wild, or bratty kids.

Re: Anyone feel like some names are "ruined" for them?

I love the names Alexander and Alexandra...however, DH's nephew is Alexander, so those were out immediately. I wouldn't do that to my kid and our nephew. A close family friend's daughter's name is Gabrielle...and his brother named his daughter Gabriella...I've always thought that was really weird.

ETA: I'm not quite sure where that came from...that was weird...those names aren't 'ruined' for me....I just choose to stay away from the names, they are good kids.

I do have other names that are ruined for me by people I know/have known over the years.

I don't know how you teachers ever come up with names for your kids!!! I have names that are blocked based on stories by my teacher friends!
