Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Bella HATES when we try tummy time on her Einstein mat. She wants no part of it and I feel guilty that we haven't been doing it.
However, she already does have incredible neck control. She's usually holding it up when she's on my shoulder or sitting on my lap.
I'm wondering, are there any other alternatives to "tummy time"??

DS isn't crazy about it either. He lasts about 10 min. on a good day. DH and I put him on our chests a lot and he seems to like that much better. He has great neck control and his upper body is getting stronger too.

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Most babies aren't crazy about it. I'd try to do it a couple of times a day, even a minute is a long time for them, just slowly increase the amount of time. Let's say the first time is one minute, try for a minute and a half the next. You just have to get them used to it

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Perhaps you're just not providing a good enough "incentive" to be on the tummy. We had the same problem, DD had great neck control early on but hated being on her tummy because she couldn't look around...guess its not much fun staring at the floor even if it is a fun playmat. We bought her this FP mirror that lights up and played music and she started loving tummy time and staring at her face in the mirror. Maybe try putting a mirror or a fun toy in front of her to encourage her to look up.
I also did a lot of laying on the floor with my face in front of hers...

Same here....DD hates it and cries.
I did get some the other day...I took the boppy and had her on her tummy. She cried but I let her see me, got her a little happy and then she stayed for about 20 min. Progress!

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Do it at really small increments. DS hated it for a while, but as he got more and more head control he liked it better and better.

ds isn't a fan either, but we've been putting toys in front of him and got this mirror (below) which he loves and now and talks and smiles at. Everyday we try to do it longer and longer even if it only is 5 minutes, he has to get used to it.

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Our pt told us to try to get a water mat to make is softer for Jack. Munckin makes one....they sell it at walmart and I think this helped tremendously. He didnt seem so bothered to be on the floor.

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
My son is always on our chest too, so I feel that that is good tummy time. He is lifting his head well. The only thing that I think he is missing is getting the strength in his arms. He really hates tummy time as well. I put him on the boppy, but he usually just lays his head on the side until he cries....
ETA-I just bought an adorable elephant mirror that lights up and plays music...I have used it about 3 times...and I think hes starting to like it a little bit....

That's my concern. Plus, she's been flailing them around all over the place!

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
a lot of babies dont like tummy time....just try for a few minutes every day and as they get older they will stay on their tummies for a few min. DD hated it and never had much tummy time. she still learned to roll and crawl at a normal pace, it wasnt a problem. Just dont give up, try here and there....

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
I used mirrors and stuff. he really didn't like it at first, but after a few weeks, he loved it and also at one point actually preferred to play on his belly.
This is another thing that I used, from Lamaze. It was great and Steven LOVED it!
Edited to add more pics to show the mat. Image Attachment(s):

At 4 1/2 months, Taylor still HATES tummy time. I bought the cute Boppy Tummy Time Play Pad and she hates it. I do everything I can to try and get her to stretch out the time she spends on the floor.

Re: Anyone finding tummy time difficult?
Mine HATED it; nothing I did or bought worked...he screamed and screamed and screamed ... and I wound up doing it less and less and less...and you know what? My son does not have a flat head, and met all of his milestones at an age-appropriate time. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as they're not laying on their backs all the time, you're fine. My son preferred his Exersaucer -- things that he could sit or stand in instead. He really didn't love crawling either. Something about him facing the floor really turned him off. He couldn't wait to walk ...

Kay hates it too... has from the beginning. I hope that spending time laying on my belly counts towards it.

This is exactly what I used to do. We were at a minute 3x a day for a couple of weeks. DD would just cry but we did it. I used to have her do some belly time on me...making faces at her & blowing raspberries.
