Anyone get sick after drinking the glucose drink?
I had my 1 hour test today. I drank the stuff and about a half hour later I got so ill, thought I was going to throw up. I felt like I suddenly got the flu, my muscles and joints hurt, got dizzy. Not good. Then it was an ordeal to get my blood drawn - 3 sticks! First vein got out 2 vials easily - but then stopped (uhm you'd think being on blood thinners it'd be pouring out), the second vein collapsed and the third vein got the other 2 vials. Let's just say I took the rest of the day off to recoup from that brutal experience.
Anyone else get sick from the drink? If so, what was the outcome of your test - did you pass? I got so scared that this meant I failed, but the doctor said not necessarily.
Just wondering, now I know I can't do the 3 hour... if I fail I'll just have them write me in as Diabetic and go on with my life. That was horrible. Next time I get stuck that much I'd better be delivering this kid.

I haven't gone yet, my appointment is on the 16th.
Maybe you were nervous and worked yourself up.
I'm not good with needles, and I got sweaty, cold and clamy when they took blood for my first appointment after my BFP.

I got sick before the needles, it had nothing to do with nerves, I was ready to just sit there and read to pass the time. I give myself painful injections every night so I doubt it was needle-phobia. The drink itself got me sick and the staff said it does happen sometimes.
Granted after the needles I was uncomfortable and a little irritated, but my doc is great so that helped with the irritation. However, I still didn't feel like myself.

I did not actually vomit but was totally queasy, shakey,dizzy and hot. I thought I may even passout. I thought maybe I would fail too, but I PASSED!

being a diabetic, it sounds like your blood sugar shot up and then bottomed out...but obviously i'm not a doctor. it just sounds like how i can feel with a very high blood sugar or when i have a very low blood sugar. so i'm sure thats what happened. hope you're feeling better! at least that part is over with and good luck with your results!

don't be scared... it's not bad - the drink is nasty tho if you don't like sweet stuff....
i have heard b4 of women getting ill from the drink tho.

I did- I almost fainted in the office after drinking that stuff. I also saw spots when they drew the blood. They had to put a washcloth on my head and have me lay down for a 1/2 hour after the test.
It all worked out though- I passed!!

That is probably exactly what happened.Glucola is full of sugar, and the point of the test is to make sure that your insulin response is appropriate, and you are not developing gestational diabetes. I felt exactly the same way when i took the glucola, the rapid increase in blood sugar can make you nauseous, and then the sudden drop will make you shakie dizzy and also sick to your stomach. YUCK!

I feel so much better knowing that I'm not crazy and this seems common. The test was so early in the morning (8am) that I didn't eat anything since the night before. I agree, it was probably such a rush and then a crash. I had some stomach trouble last night too so maybe I have a little Gastro bug too.
If anything I tend to run low on tests... I've been dubbed hypo-glycemic in the past and I have very low BP. When I got sick after drinking the glucose drink I felt the same way I feel when my BP bottoms out and as soon as I put my feet up it helps as was the case yesterday too. Who knows.
How long does it usually take to get the results back? I was so happy to be going home I forgot to ask.
