Anyone give birth with low/no fluid?

I was induced w/ DS because I had no fluid left (slow leak I was not aware of). I then went through 40 hours of labor, incl. 7 hours of pushing. It seems like from reading other posts, having a "dry" birth (I delivered vag.) can be dangerous for the baby. DS is now 2, and fine, but he was in the NICU for a week due to the "traumatic" birth, and breathing difficulties. I am now wondering if there was a connection. Chat Icon

I was induced because of low fluid. I eventually had a C b/c of DD's heart rate dropping/slow progression. :(

Do you remember how low your fluid was? My fluid was 2. something - I had a c-section the day the sono was done - but DD was also breech.

Definate connection.....my birth also was considered a "dry birth".

What I thought was me peeing my pants @ 4am was my water breaking. It was a slow leak, only really leaking out when I sat down (i.e. to pee or when I sat in a chair) adn I thought I was just putting a lot of pressure on my bladder each time so that I kept wetting myselfChat Icon

My labor was not as long & intensive as yours, but I delivered DS 22 hours after the initial leakage began. I pushed for 2 hours.

DS was born with a high fever & sent to the NICU right away. I also had a high fever. He luckily only had to stay 3 nights there. But he was on fluids & antibiotics. Once he was fever free for 24 hours I was able to take him home.

When I think about it now, I wonder why they didn't push for a c-section. Yes, he's OK, but if this results in a NICU stay, that's not ideal. I don't know...

I had a c-section because my water broke and when I got to the hospital, my DD was not moving at all! They did a sono and told me that I had "grossly ruptured". When I asked what that meant, they told me that all my amniotic fluid was gone, making it difficult for my DD to move. They gave me meds to induce the labor, but I was not dialating and DD's heart rate was dropping drastically with contractions. After 6 hours on the meds, they went for a C-section.

Re: Anyone give birth with low/no fluid?

I had a high high fever that my dr kept IGNORING. I felt DD wasnt moving much...long story short, I forced my ob to send me to L&D where it was discovered my fluid was 4 and I had to have an immediate csection. No leak was discovered, not sure what caused it.

DD was in NICU 2 days as a precaution due to my fever. I was worried for a LONG time that somehow the low fluid could have harmed her brain or something else. But at almost 3, she seems fine to me so I try not to think about it as I think something would have shown by now.

Beth, I know you saw my post on PG - very low fluid, dr decided it was time to take baby at 39 weeks, decided on c-section because of fears of complications from induction of "dry birth", OB said I had absolutely nothing left and we did the right thing.

Re: Anyone give birth with low/no fluid?

My second DD had almost no fluid when she was born. I was past my due date and was supposed to be trying for a vbac. I had a BPP and the fluid was measuring at 3. I was told to go to the hospital that night. Baby was moving and doing well on the monitor, but I still had not gone into labor on my own so I needed to get another c-section. I was told had I not been a previous c-section, they would have induced me.
My Dr. said when she cut into my uterus, usually the bag will bulge out because of the amniotic fluid, and it didn't happen with DD. They actually had to deliver in the sac because they were afraid they would cut her if they didn't do it that way. She said there was pretty much no fluid at all left. No one was able to tell me why it happened.
She was fine, no NICU.

Not me, but my sister had a "dry birth". She was induced and had a long labor. I remember she pushed for a few hours, as compared to her other kids, where it was minutes. Other than that, no NICU and no complications except baby was much smaller than her other 3.

This almost exactly but I was also 1week late when my fluid dropped & the induction/labor/ no progress took 24 hours so DD was born 9 days late (12:04am) and had low blood sugar so spent 3 days in Nicu

I was induced with #2 because of low fluid and preeclampsia. I had no complications and DS was fine.

Re: Anyone give birth with low/no fluid?

I was induced past my due date due to low fluid levels. I had a fairly shirt induction and was in active labor for maybe 6 hours and pushed for about 30 minutes. They did have to use the vacuum extractor, but that was because the cord was stuck around DS neck and he was stuck.

Re: Anyone give birth with low/no fluid?

I had an emergency c/s @ 36 weeks because Georgie had very low fluid. At the time, I was upset bc I wanted to try to hold out a little longer, but the dr said it would have been dangerous to keep them in any longer.

With G, I pushed for almost 2 1/2 hrs and they didn't take me seriously when I saidI had to push and I was about ready to riped my male nurse's eyes out. I reallY could have!!!

With Aa, I don't even want to go there. It was the most painful, scrary, amazing experience of my life!! AND I NEVER WANT TO EXPERIENCE THAT AGAIN!!!!

Not sure about the low fluid, i know they wereconerned about that wiht me for Aa. But after he came out, I think they may have concentrated on me bec I kept passing out.
