Low Amniotic Fluid and Birth Defects
Has anyone heard of low amneotic fluid early on could mean the baby has a genetic disorder? My friend is going through this...
Also she has not such great results for her untrascreen and AFP testing...she is 20 weeks and not the dr's think theres a genetic disorder due to lack of movement and low fluid...any info would be great!!!

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid and Birth Defects
I think I remember reading something about this, but I really don't know what this would indicate for sure.
The only way she can find out is with an amnio--they should still be able to do one at 20 weeks. Did they offer her one?

Not sure, my SIL had low fluid with all 3 of her kids they are all fine but she was induced alittle early due to low fluid.

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid and Birth Defects
well they are definetly doing one...they wanted to at 13 and she said no as she thought the risk would outweigh the outcome....at this point for whatverer reason they feel she may have a genetic problem with the baby..I dont know all of the details but I told her I have heard of moms hearing this, and then everything is fine!!! Please pray for her, shes pretty far along...

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid and Birth Defects
I had low amniotic fluid later in my pregnancy, but when I researched it, I did see studies that showed a link between low amniotic fluid before 20 weeks and disabilities of some kind...I don't remember the details, but I would urge her NOT to research randomly on the internet...this was the worst for me until I started only reading medical journals, etc. Good luck and I'll keep her in my prayers.
