Anyone give DC protein shakes? (Updated with info from ped.)
I am having a really tough time getting DD to eat these days. I have major concerns about the lack of protein though. At almost 19 months, I am still giving her lots of pureed veggies & fruits so I know that they get in there. Meat is so difficult though; if she detects a trace of it, she spits it right out. I've read everyone's posts about their children eating chicken nuggets & meatballs...forget it...for me that's a distant dream!!
I'd like to give her a protein shake though. Anyone have any recommendations? TIA
UPDATE: So I talked to the ped today about protein shakes & getting more protein and fats into her. He said that she can have the regular Spirutein. He said that most of the vitamins in it are water soluble so her body will just pee out whatever her body doesn't need.
He also recommended putting olive oil on her pastina & buying Nutella spread to put on rice cakes or crackers. He did recommend tofu. He told me to put away her snacks that I usually allow her to graze on all day...I am only sabotaging all meal attempts from there. Another mistake I have been making is giving her milk & then trying to feed her so I have to stop that. We'll see if those changes make a difference in her eating.

Funny you should ask... because I was JUST thinking this the other day. There's an amzing shake I get at the organic market in my town and it's got Spiru-tein in it and was wondering if it was OK to let DD have some....
Thanks for asking this!

Alright this is going to sound really dumb BUT I have a huge container of vanilla Spirutein & love it. It says "Keep out of reach of children". Do you think that means just the container with the powder and that DD can actually drink it? That's what was confusing me.

Me too! I never read this though! I wonder I think maybe the powder would be bad if they got into it...I'm going to do a search about this

Re: Anyone give DC protein shakes?
I used to work for Nature's Plus for several years, the company who makes Spiru-tein. They make kid shakes in the Animal Parade line. I'm not sure how much protein is in them though I probably wouldn't give the adult formulation since it may have too many vitamins/minerals in it for a baby.

There are veggies with lots of protein (like edamame). If she is not eating any meat, could you substitute another veg for something like this? Or even blend up some tofu to get the protein in there?

Re: Anyone give DC protein shakes? (Updated with info from ped.)
Hmm even though your ped. said it was okay, I would still be hesitant. I would stick to their brand specifically created for children. Most, not all vitamins are water soluable. I wouldn't give a toddler an adult One A Day KWIM?
Have you looked into Pediasure? I'm not crazy about the sugar content in it, but DS loves it and it has actually helped him to gain a few pounds recently.
