My doula suggested I make one that is very simple and points out the main issues that I might get opposition on from the nurses and staff. I can FM if you want to take a peek....
I made one!! I gave it to my OBGYN and it's in my file, they went over eveything with me and complied.
Yesterday DH and I went to the maternity ward, sat down with the nurse manager and went over my birth plan with her too. She took a copy and put it in my file. So...
You've got FM
Where are you delivering?

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
Here's what I wrote :
What I wrote in my birth plan...
MY BIRTH “PLAN”: *************************** Sorry ladies... but I am SO SICK and tired of having to justify myself, my "birth plan" and my intention to go natural for the safety of my baby, that I felt I needed to take my "plan" down.
FM me if you'd like to see it.
I feel like I can't even voice my feelings about it without someone negating the experience I choose to have, or without having someone say something about this or that.
Everyone's experience is different and I wish people would just start repsecting that.
Sorry

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
Thanks Rachelle for this and thanks KAra for the FM...Im going to write one up.
Also, one thing I dont understand, is why in natural births, is episiotomy such a no no? Not that I WANT IT...I just never understood this and you guys seem knowledgable.

Thank you ladies for your responses. I have a question about the birthing ball? Are these available at the hospitals, or do you have to bring your own. Also, I want to be allowed to walk around during my contractions---I think that will help more than lying in bed. I am going to southside. Does anyone know if you are allowed to do this here, or if they hook you right up to the monitors???
You have to bring your own - basically it is a pilates/excercise ball. I got mine on ebay for less $$ than anywhere else. I got 65cm, as any other size is probably too small. Depends on your height I guess - you should be at all right angles when you use it....
Any hospital will want to hook you up right away - it's a control thing. If you don't want that, talk to your OB. Some hospitals ahve rules they will not break tho - mine insists on having an IV from the time I get there. I am not happy about that, but they are willing to work with me on everything else. Even my OB cannot override that decision.

OK... here's what out teacher did... take a piece of paper, hold it between your two fingers and have your DH make a small tear with a knife or scissor... then tear it... watch how easy and how FAR it'll tear, say if the doctor decides to "tear you" with an incision.
Once you start a tear, there's no stopping it. When you tear naturally, there's more chance of it not being so bad.
JUST WHAT I LEARNED AND MY OPINION... LADIES DON'T GET ON ME FOR SAYING THAT!!! I'm sure many episiotomies have been fabulous!!

It used to be practice of some doctors just to cut you. A knowledgeable doctor/midwife will know how to slowly have you push to ease the baby out slowly. If it is a necessity to have your baby fit then so be it..but if you are going to only have a slight tear with the baby coming on his/her own I would rather have that then having the doctor decide to cut me without evaluating the situation.

I just wanted to say thanks to Chelle for sharing the birth plan with us. It's so helpful to have a sample and to see the kinds of concerns to address!

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
No, I do not plan on trying to go natural. I know that things may change and I may have the baby very quickly and therefore will not get the epidural. but i know my tolerance for pain.

I agree with this too. Even if you go natural there's still a chance you could get an epiostomy. Even if I didn't get the epi, my daughters head did not fit out through my vaginal opening/peri area. I would have gotten cut either way, DD needed forceps and after 2.5 hours of pushing, i wouldn't have torn either, if i did, it would have been wayyy worse. I was soo swollen.
I also waited as long as possible to go the hospital-my contractions were 4-5 mins apart, but they still made me lie down and hooked me up to monitors. I was only 2-3 cms when they were like that.
Everyone's birth experience is different. Whether you go natural or with the epi you should still go in with an open mind cause labor is very unpredictable.

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
I thought about it. Until the back labor was so bad I was nearly passing out and crying.
At the time I felt like the epidural saved my life.

I agree with the OP exactly. I am going to try to go natural but if I cant take the pain I wont too shy to ask for an epi

I would love to see it if you don't mind.
I haven't decided yet. Actually, it still seems so far away to me (due Nov 16) even though I should probably start thinking about it.
All I know for sure is, I will be PO'd if I want to stand or walk around and someone tries to "make me" lay down, unless of course it's b/c I could harm the baby.

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
Ive done the whole natural thing 3 times..I go quickly so it was never a real issue (we're talking under 3 hours from start to finish) This time around Im getting my tubes tied so I will have to have an epi so that they can tie my tubes after delivery...

Re: Anyone going to try it natural?
Im going to go natural for as long as i can, but it really depends. I was induced with DD and went natural for about 6 hours, but i wasnt able to get out of bed and there was nothing i could do to help the pain other than an epi. I am hoping to not be induced this time, but we shall see...
