Anyone have a passive, "lazy" baby?
DH calls Cailen a muffin
I find that he likes to sit in his bouncy seat, be read to, and interact with me by smiling and "talking" but he just isnt physically active... DH thinks its because I hold him so much....
He hates being put down I try and get him to go on his belly and roll over, and he'll lay there and stare at me. Sometimes he'll try and then sort of give up and howl...
I feel awful - like damned if I do damned if I dont.... I dont want him screaming when I'm with him... he only stops if I entertain him when he's lying down, but then he's not moving... then if I'm looking at him, he stares at me and then wants me to hold him
When he's on me he'll roll around a bit, but mostly he just likes to cuddle
I'm concerned about him developing physically. I feel he is a mush and its adorable but I dont want him to not be mobile and get heavy (weight issues run in my family)
once he learns to walk we are going to hit the park all the time, but I'm concerned he isnt really hitting his physical milestones because I'm not doing right by him....
I need reassurance, advice, something....

I guess he's a bit young for that exercise bike eh?
I wouldn't stress too much about Cailen. Every baby does things at different paces. You are a great Mom and soon your boy will be all over the place!

Re: Anyone have a passive, "lazy" baby?
I have been feeling the same concerns lately. I have been putting Lucas on his tummy to play and we are trying to get him to rollover but nothing has happened so far. Everyone says that it will happen on it's own so I am going to keep that in mind but I feel like I should be doing more for him...just not sure what.
Sorry no help...but I do want to tell you not to be hard on yourself. You are a great mom and holding him is not something bad. I am sure that he will be active and that you will be posting about how exhausted you are from running after him

Re: Anyone have a passive, "lazy" baby?
Ok, maybe I am confused, but how do you mean "physically active"? I mean, he is what, 5 months old or so? He can't walk or crawl yet, so that's out...does he like to stand on you or sit up? Do you have an exersaucer or jumperoo that he can stand and play in instead of laying or sitting?
Christopher lays on his back, he doesn't roll yet, but he wants to stand up ALL the time. He loves his bounce bounce baby thing b/c he can stand in it and he is starting to reach out to the toys now (he is too small for it, but a recieving blanket does the trick)
What milestones do you feel he is missing?

he's 5 mts old - he can actually sit up on his own if I pull him up which is advanced - but he seems to do well with anything as long as he is sitting...
he likes the jumperoo, and will use that.... he will also stand up against me when I hold him... but the exersaucer just isnt his thing right now....
He isnt rolling over that much - he did it once from belly to back on his own, and will try from back to front, but gives up...
I'm not expecting crawling at all... he pushes up when placed on his tummy... he has potential, its just I'm concerned I'm not maximizing on that potential the way I should
He's in daycare, and since they arent emotionally involved, I'm sure they "push" him more than I do, so I feel it is hapening somewhere....
I just feel guilty that I'm still holding him a lot - usually when I get home he and I veg on the couch together, and DH feels he should be spread out on a blanket or in his PNP and trying to move around a little....

He sounds fine to me. I wish my DD would cuddle and want me to hold her- she is such an independent baby. I would love more cuddles.

I hold DS all the time...I think you guys really may be over thinking it. He sounds fine. I put DS in the pack and play sometimes, on his back, with a mirror toy and he will give a lot of attention to it, but not for very long.
Don't make problems where they don't exist, babies move at their own pace

Re: Anyone have a passive, "lazy" baby?
I would say that if he's sitting up unassisted, he's doing pretty good!
When I put Emma on her belly she gets so mad that she sort of scoots. She likes to stand and she moves her legs to walk, it's hilarious! But she doesn't roll over, she did a couple times from belly to back. She tries and gives up. She doesn't really sit either, she topples over unless she is in the Bumbo.
There isn't a whole lot for them to do at this age and he sounds like he is fine! Don't worry over nothing

Re: Anyone have a passive, "lazy" baby?
I hold DD alot! And I don't think that has anything to do with her activity level. Every baby has a different temperment, just like each person does.
Cailen is probably just chilling out and taking in everything around him. He is learning and developing more that you can imagine. He just doesn't care to show it off!
You are a great mom and there is no need to stop cuddling he loves it and one day he won't want it anymore and you'll miss that time!
