anyone have a short cervix around 28 weeks

Up until today (28 weeks) ive had no issues with this pregnancy. Cervix has always been long and closed based on external sonograms.

Today I had my first internal to measure the cervix and it measured at 2.4. They said anything less than 3 is short. So now I have to go back next week to measure again and take it from there.

Just curious if anyone has had a short cervix and it stayed the same lenghth. Or if it does shorten what happens next? They mentioned steriods??

Ive always had pressure, Baby A is really low...so it was never an issue...now im terrified!

I was put on hospital bed rest at 29 weeks for short cervix. I delivered at 34.5 weeks due to IUGR with one of the twins. I believe I measured about the same when I was put in hospital but I had a 3 year old so they were afraid I would do too much at home.

Its interuterine growth retardation. He wasnt gettting enough blood through the placenta and sonograms indicated he was not growing. Jonathan was 3lbs 14oz while his brother was 5lbs 7 oz.

The short cervix has nothing to do with IUGR. Its a completely separate problem. I wouldn't worry.

Chances are if it is still short they will put you on some form of bedrest whether it be complete or partial. The steroid shots would be to help their lungs develop more quickly in case they are born early then there will be a better chance they can breathe on their own. If you get the shots but end up going full term or close to it, there's no harm in having it. My dr. explained it as having insurance...you're better off having it and never needing it then wishing you had gotten it.

Re: anyone have a short cervix around 28 weeks

Mine went to 28 at 26 weeks. Strict bedrest and indomethacin for 3 daysand procardia the rest of pregnancy. It was up to 34 by 3 days and 40 by the following week. They told them it was baby A's pressure. She pretty much camped out on my cervix and bladder all pregnancy. I was on varied modified/strict til 34 weeks with carried cervix down to 19 and as high as 27. I eased off bedrest at 35 weeks but still pretty much did no housework or anything. I just would go to a store or to dinner once in awhile as opposed to sitting in bed all day. (I worked from home during the day). They put me back on indomethacin some weekends up til about 32 weeks to prolong it. I delivered at 36 weeks.

Shortened cervix put me on bedrest at 27 weeks. I was put on procardia at 29 weeks. Cervix got shorter with bedrest. Was given steroids at 30w and delivered them at 30w 5 d.

Re: anyone have a short cervix around 28 weeks

i had a short cervix at 15 weeks (it was only .9cm)!! it was found early enough for me to get a cerclage though. i was on bedrest for 20 weeks until my water broke at 35 weeks.
my DS was 2.5 at the time. it was definitely not easy, but thankfully i made it to 35 weeks.
i got the steroids for their lungs and i was getting weekly progesterone shots to help stop pre-term labor.

good luck and keep us posted Chat Icon Chat Icon
