Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

did you see the fetus in the sac or just the sac and then went back a week or so later to see the fetus?

I had my sonogram today, i'm 5 weeks 3 days and there was a sac, but no fetus. My HCG levels have gone up from 313 to 2030 as of yesterday so I have a viable pregnancy... we thinkChat Icon anyone the dr. said it's normal to not see anything this early on... but I'm still a wreck until I go back in 2 weeks for another sonogram...

did this happen to anyone?

Re: Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

I'm trying to remember from this pregnancy. I am pretty sure 5 weeks can be too soon to see anything but the sac, but things can change in a matter of days.

Honestly, I am kinda surprised they are waiting a full 2 weeks for another sonogram. I had to go back 4-5 days later with my first pregnancy.

I'm sure everything is fine, it's just early. Your numbers rock!!

Karen, she wanted me back next week, but i'll be in NY and won't return for 2 weeks. I wanted to go back Friday, but she said what if I'm disappointed and it would upset me more. I won't even be 6 weeks come friday so there is no point. she said in 10 days I will have a fetus and a heart beat for sure and if I don't than I miscarried. i never had an early sonogram with either of my pregnancies so this is all new to meChat Icon

Gotcha!! That makes sense about the wait. And I guess Friday would be premature for anything, not that waiting is any better!!

Re: Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

My Dr. miscalculated my due date and I had a sonogram at what they thought was week 5. It showed no signs of pregnancy, so they told me I had miscarried.....
Long story, but I went back a week later for another sonogram (GUT feeling and a wonderful nurse plus some positive beta HCG tests), and this time was "truly" 5 weeks, and there was the little sac! A week later we had another sonogram, and we had a heartbeat in the sac!
DH and I now know that 4 weeks is too early, but 5 weeks is when you can see a sac, but don't freak if you don't see one...They could have your date wrong, like my super-genius doctor did.\

Also, one of the nurses told me that the sonogram won't show anything if your beta HCG levels are less than 2000....so if your levels are just over 2000, it seems like you are right on target!

Congratulations!

I had one at 6 weeks, but I thought I remember reading or hearing that you can't see anything until the beta is 20,000. I could be wrong though. I hope everything is ok. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think that is pretty normal. By your next visit you should see a fetal pole and probabaly a hb.

Re: Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

I bled at 5 weeks and had a sono and there was a sac but no embryo....then I bled 3 days later and went back for another sono and there was a heartbeat! Just a few days makes a huge difference in the beginning.

I had my first at 5 weeks and there was a little tiny dot that the doctor could see, but I couldn't. Not really much of anything.

I think I was 6 weeks (you'd think I'd remember being as it was only 2 weeks ago Chat Icon ) We saw the fetal pole & yolk sack but not the heartbeat I think it was one week later that we saw that. Try not to worry (easy to say) but I don't think they do see much so early and your beta # are great

Re: Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

I had my first sono at 6 wks and we only saw a sac - my OB wasn't concerned at all - said it was normal for that early. I went back at 8 wks and saw the HB.

I'm so happy for you LisaChat Icon Sending you tons of sticky vibes!!!

At 5 weeks it looked like a grain of rice.

We couldn't see or hear a heart beat yet.

My office makes us wait to 8 weeks and I think this is why, there's really not much to see this early so I'm sure everything is fine, esp if your beta numbers are doing well.

Re: Anyone have a sonogram at 5 weeks?

HI....I went on 7/10/2007 to the RE because I wanted to get help to get pregnant...she did a sonogram (routine for her) and she saw my lining was thick which could mean I was pregnant...turned out I was about 4 weeks.

Then I returned on 7/17/2007 after the confirmation of pregnancy through bloodwork and did another sonogram...we saw a sac. She told me everything looked normal...that was all she expected to see. I was 5 weeks pregnant. I have another appointment 7/31/07 to see the heartbeat...I will be 6weeks 6days pregnant.

My girlfriend is 6weeks 4 days and heard the heartbeat yesterday. So I'm praying to hear it as well.

My RE is following until we see/hear the heartbeat and I have been going for weekly bloodwork....

my numbers:
7/10/2007 - 223
7/17/2007- 3,500
7/24/2007 - 25,000

SOOOOOO...

Everything is fine.....as hard as it is...enjoy this time.

I saw the fetal pole and heartbeat at 5w6d...but my doc said if I had been in even 2 or 3 days earlier, we prob would have just seen a sac. So it sounds like you are right on schedule. A few days makes such a difference in the beginning.

5 weeks, 6 days we got to see and hear the heartbeat. My doctor said it just started beating. It's very common to not see anything that early. good Luck Chat Icon
