Anyone have a split level home?

We have an avalon split. When you walk in you go up 2 stairs theres the LR then 5 stairs theres the DR and Kitchen then another like 8 stair theres the bedroom.

How do you babyproof? My husband wants to get gates at every set of stairs but that would require having about 9 gates.

Re: Anyone have a split level home?

Our house is not set up exactly the same way, but right now the babies are only allowed to crawl around in the den downstairs so we have a gate set up there on the stairs.

If they are in the living room/kitchen floor, they will be in the superyard.

When they get older and are walking and don't want to be contained I will set up gates on all the stairs.

We gated the stairways into the livingroom. We got a super play yard and used that to gate off where she could go. Our house had some renevations so we have two big stairs going down into the kids play room. I actually made sure they knew how to do the stairs pretty quickly so we didn't need a ton of gatesChat Icon

My split is different, but we have 3 gates.

1 on the main level on the stairs that go down to the den. Another upstairs where the bedrooms are and a 3rd in the kitchen where the stairs to the basement are.

Re: Anyone have a split level home?

Our split has 7 steps up and down- up to the br's and bath and down to the kitchen/ dr

Right now DD is 10 mos- we have both gates at the middle level so she can't go up or down. She is not allowed to crawl or walk upstairs or downstairs now but soon that willbe diff so we will prob put in 2 more gates and babyproof the cabinets etc

Re: Anyone have a split level home?

I had gates at the top of each set of stairs, not at the bottom.

When she was able to climb and go down stairs, we took off the gates to stairs that ended in carpeted areas.

She learned quickly and is a master stairclimber! Having short stairs is good because they can learn on them.
