Anyone have a succesful VBAC in the past?
I had a C/S w/ my daughter about 10 months ago, and I am 15 weeks and a few days today. I really wanna try VBAC, nd told my dr. She is okay with it and seems optmistic.
I was scared that there wasnt enough time in between but I really dont want to have another c/s. I had a terrible recovery (well it was only the 1st few days, but it was BAD) and I DO NOT want to go thru that again, unless i HAVE to. It wasnt even an emergency surgery, just due to lack of progress. I didnt really need it.
And if no one here has had one, is there anyone else who's thinking of trying VBAC?
I'm scared of rupturing....

I had one . There were not as close as you though. There were 6 years apart between mine.
The recovery was so much better. I was so happy I did. I didn't think a c-section recovery was bad at all but when I had the VBAC I was amazed at the difference.
I recommend that if everything works out for you that you should definately go for it!!!

I am interested in VBAC as well. I had a friend that did it successfully; her girls are 21 mos. apart. She was amazed at the difference. She also informed me that the "increased risk" of rupture goes up to something like 1.5% from like .8% with vaginal delivery! I personally think that rupture panic is more due to potential lawsuits than actual risk.
Anyway, I'll be anxious to see how you do!!

Re: Anyone have a succesful VBAC in the past?
Several friends of mine had sucessful VBAC's. I don't know if you would consider natural childbirth or not but often the epi's can cause failure to progress or if they give you pitocin and can move things too quickly before the baby is ready to come down. I would read up a lot on the logisitcs of birth, become familiar with the process and maybe find a message boards of mom's who had successful VBAC's and see what worked for them. Good Luck!!

Re: Anyone have a succesful VBAC in the past?
I just had a VBAC in May and it was the best experience ever. My 2 kids are almost 2 years apart to the day. My doctor was great in every aspect, he did not dissuade me at all and was all for it. There were a few things that he cautioned about:
* uterine rupture, HOWEVER, the chances of that are so small, its hard to really pay mind to, but it is out there and should be talked about with the doc who did your first c/s (the cut, did it heal good, etc.)
* you CAN NOT be induced - you must go into labor on your own.
* My doc watched the size of Lauren carefully because my first was nearly 10 lber and he was early (that's not why I had a c/s though, it was because he was breech). My doc would start to consider a repeat c/s if she looked bigger than 8 lbs (she was not) and/or if I went past my due date (I went 10 days early) and the baby was getting big.
I have to say that I had a wonderful c/s recovery the first time but the recovery from a vaginal birth is hands down SO MUCH EASIER! Not to say I wasn't walking like a cowboy and in some pain, but the thing is I was up 20 minutes after giving birth, going to the bathroom and just feeling good enough to almost walk to my recovery room (they wouldn't let me thought, LOL).
There are many doctors who do not advocate VBAC and if my doc was one of them, I would not have stayed with him. If your doctor is wililng to give it a try, I would say go for it. While your pushing, any fears are completely out the window and its just an amazing thing to experience (of couse I had the epidural on the whole time, so I can say that!).
FM if you have any more questions.
