anyone have experience with bagpipe bands? I need advice
we are having a surprise birthday party for my Dad at a restaurant & I want to have bagpipers for him, would it be better to have one bagpiper & one drummer or two bagpipers & one drummer?
I'd appreciate any input on this & if anyone has a recommendation of a band that would be great too!

my brother had a full pipe band and it was really amazing, we just had two pippers and it was great but the drummer added to it.

At my wedding we had 3 bag pipers and 1 drummer. At church we only had 1 piper. I would suggest going bigger and definitely getting the drummer.

Bigger is better with pipes! Get the drums! I know a BUNCH of pipers if you need any.....we use them a few times a month for work stuff.

I know an amazing bagpiper his name is Tim McCarthy and his contact # is 646-245-0391. I've seen them do weddings, parties and even sweet 16's. Good Luck!

I had 2 pipers and a drummer escort DH and the guys to the church at our wedding, they were awesome, and the ratio was 'just right'! Let me know if you need a #, they were with the NYPD Emerald Society!

Definitely get the drummer and at least two pipers.
I was at a bar on Patty's day that had two pipers and a drummer come in. I couldn't imagine them playing without the drummer. And the two pipers probably completes the sound better.

Definitely get the two bagpipers and the drummer - the sound is better than with one piper and one drummer.
I also have the name of a guy - awesome. FM me if you want his details!

Re: anyone have experience with bagpipe bands? I need advice
The pipers actually have a preferred ratio of pipers to drummers. I think it's either 3 or 4 pipers to each drummer but I am no expert so you should check with the Band.
There are many good bands on Long Island that could quote you a price.
I like Saffron United out of Bayshore, Roisen Dubh out of the East Islip AOH or Peconic Warpipes from Wading River. (There are a ton in Nassau too but I seem to recall that you live in Suffolk).
HTH.
