Anyone have fire escape ladders on the 2nd+ floor?
Now that all our bedrooms will be on the 2nd floor, and DC are getting a little older, I thought about fire escape ladders. There are some relatively cheap ones that hook onto the window sill and hang down. With those, I'm worrying about trying to find them (even if they are stored by the window) and using them in a panic situation.
These look interesting, though:

It's permanently mounted under the window, so it's always in the same spot, and you know that it is always secured to the wall.
The door is insulated, so you won't lose any heat through the opening.
Yes, I realize that I have to address the possibility of DC climbing out of the window (especially as teenagers), but that's something I can address after I decide if I should get these or not, or something similar.
Anyone have any escape ladders they could recommend/not recommend?

The portable ones are about $35, compared to $300 for the permanently mounted ones...

It's funny you posted this because I was just thinknig that we need them. All of our bedrooms are on the second floor, and while we have a landing outside our bedroom and outside the guestroom, Ava has nothing but a straight drop. She's too young for it, but I think it'd be worth it to invest in at least one portable one that you can stash under your bed.

It's in the back of my head. We don't really live upstairs but when we have to I will get the "cheaper" one.

I would go with the non-mounted ones and just put them in a box with a flashlight, extinguisher, etc. under the bed.
My dad always had us do fire drills and I'm stuck on knowing how to get out of the house from all locations. I need to get that ladder though!

We have these ones from One Step Ahead in all the bedrooms. I keep them right under the windows.
We also have a fire extinguisher in the upstairs linen closet.
