Anyone have scoliosis?
Hi, I have scoliosis in my lower lumbar. I've always had flare ups of back pain, but now I'm only a few weeks pregnant and my lower back is killing me 24/7!
I didn't sleep at all last night because I couldn't find a comfortable position that relieves the pain.
Normally, I'd take a few motrin and go sit in the hot tub, but I obviously can't do that.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to relieve this pain? I really need a break from it even for a little while.

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
I have scoliosis but it's in my upper right shoulder area....it hasn't effected me that much but I do have bad lower back pain...ask your doctor about physical therapy if it gets really bad

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
i was going to physical therapy before i got pregnant, and the therapist there said there is very little you can do for someone who is pregnant.

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
I do, but it's very mild so i'm not much affected by it normally. Now my OB has explained it could become more painful as the pregnancy progresses but so far it's ok.

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
I had severe scoliosis (both upper and lumbar) and had a spinal fusion of almost my entire spine when I was 18. I only have 3 non-fused discs in my lower back, and one is herniated. Before pregnancy, i'd get flare ups every now and then, but if i exercised regularly, it kept the flare ups at a minimum. At about 9-14 weeks, I started having a lot of back pain, but it went away. My only advice is to stretch, switch ice and heat, get a pre-natal massage, try not to sit too long, and get some exercise. I hope you feel better.

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
I also have very mild scoliosis, and I also have uneven hips.. I was getting a lot of lower back pain towards the end of my 1st Tri (it's actually not as bad now at 20 weeks). I mentioned it to my doc, and he seemed to think that the pain was somewhat attributed to my scoliosis-- which, I honestly didn't put too much stock in because, it never bothered me before. He recco'd that I see an orthopedist which I did.
The ortho basically told me there is nothing I can really do for the pain-- aside from physical therapy.
What I do that helps-- I sit on one of those donut pillows at the office-- so I don't put pressure on my spine-- that helps a lot. I also use a heating pad if it's really flaring up.

Re: Anyone have scoliosis?
Thanks to everyone for your responses! I used heating pad last night, did some stretching and I was able to sleep last night.
Unfortunately the pain started back up when I got out of bed this morning but it seems to be worse when I'm sitting so I'm going to go take a long walk, maybe do some shopping, and then some stretching.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
