Anyone have their wisdom teeth yanked during pregnancy?
I think I am going to have to have one of my wisdom teeth pulled, but I am afraid of having it done while pregnant. It's been growing in the last couple of days and I am in so much pain But I'd rather deal with this pain than the pain from having it pulled if I can't take anything for it afterwards. Just wanted to knwo if anyone has had this done?

I work for an oral surgeon, usually we will only treat preggos w/ their obgyn consent, obviously, and only in the 2nd trimester. If you can hold off, I definitely would. Right now you are teething.... rinse w/ warm salt water and keep the area nice and clean and that should definitely calm it down! HTH

I had one pulled while preggo -- just the one that was the worst -- I have to go back for the other 3. My OBGYN wrote a note for the oral surgeon saying what was safe. FM me if you have any ???s.

As a dental hygienist I can tell you that yes it is the most opportune time to tx in the 2nd trimester. Hormones in pregnancy sometimes activate the growth of wisdom teeth I agree witht he warm salt water rinses, they really help alot..........

Re: Anyone have their wisdom teeth yanked during pregnancy?
I did in my first pregnancy. I was so nervous about it, but it was fine!! My OB said no epi in the novovaine, but truthfully, it didn't matter anyway, I felt no pain or anything. I took Tylenol before and some after and that was it. I had it done because the dentist said it had a big cavity that they don't fill, and if I had left it and it caused an infection, that would be harder to treat than just having it out while pregnant.

I never had one pulled while pregnant, thank God but did have one done years ago and never took any mediation for it afterward. Sure it hurt and was sore but wasn't too bad. Feel better

I had one set pulled when preggo...as it was said, my OB Dr. spoke to the teeth guy, and they gave me what I could have...same amount of pain as when I had the other set dome when not pregnant

Re: Anyone have their wisdom teeth yanked during pregnancy?
Thanks for the info everyone. I called my dentist and he said from the last xrays I had pre-preggo, he doesn't think it needs to come out at all since I have plenty of room in my mouth for the two on the bottom (I already have the top two and they fit fine in my mouth). He thinks it is just painful because it's growing in. I took some tylenol and feel better. But I'm going to give my doctor a call and go in to see the dentist just in case. Thanks again!!!
