those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
about how long is the recovery?? I know everyone is different but for you if you did.. how long did the pain last?
I have to eventually get all 4 out and I am thining of getting them out all at once. If I get them done on a Monday would I be okay for that Saturday (bartending) i heard it wont be as painful for me because they are not impacted whihc is why many people get them out right away...
trying to plan this doozie of a day.....

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
Mine was impacted; took three days to recover, partly because I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had all 4 pulled at once with novacaine. Had to get 4 stitches, but really didn't hurt. Was eating steak that night.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
ive had 2 done so far... both took about 2 days to recover... but i wasnt in pain in that time.. just Out of it, ya know? my mouth felt weird for a while because theres a hole where there once was a tooth (and its a pain in the butt to keep that area clean after you eat b/c food is drawn to it). But just keep flushing it out, and you'll be fine.
And follow what your dentist says-- don't drink from a straw, or brush your teeth that night.. The pain that most people get after having their wisdom teeth pulled is from a Dry Socket that can be caused by doing those things.
i feel your pain, kristi! i'll be going to the dentist every week starting next week. But, jsut think of the end result

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I told him I just wanted novacaine...I had a bad experience when I was younger at a dentists office with anesthesia. It was fine. Didn't feel a thing, although the noises are creepy.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I threw up the night I had my two impacted ones out- I'd been under anathesia. But that may have been from anything, and those teeth were tough.
When I had my non-impacted one out, I felt fine the next day. A little tender but not bad.
ETA- I had a non-wisdom tooth pulled a couple months ago and was given Vicodin, which really helped me through the rest of the day and the next day. But I was fine after that.

well be dentist buddies!! I know the feeling.. before I got married, I got so much work done- periodontal surgery, front teeth veneered- the pain and suffering was overwhelming but my teeth were healthy and my smile looked so much better..
i guess the party is over.. back to work!!!!
thanks for the advice. I guess if I get it done on Monday I should be good to go for that Saturday!!!
Good luck with your trip to the dentist.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
IMO recovery depends on if they are impacted or not..
I had one impacted tooth taken and it took 3 days to get over
had the other 3 taken out all at once and was fine by the end of the day

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had 2 done at once - the other 2 are fine and not needed. It took a few days to recover but I wasnt in that much pain - it was a little uncomfortable. I think if you have it on Monday you will be fine to bartend on Sat....at least the swelling will have gone down. Good luck! The best thing to do is to just get it all over with at once.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
Mine were semi-impacted. I had all four out at once. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't that bad. I think recovery was about a week.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I would say you would be fine by Saturday. My sister and I had all 4 done at the same time (all were impacted) and after a few days we were good. I would say 4 or 5 days is perfect. I ended up having a dry socket, which hurt like a mutha, but I was able to go and do things.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had all 4 done at once and they were all impacted--I was asleep for it. I needed 2 stitches in each tooth. The first night was pretty crappy and the percocet didn't feel like it worked too well--by the next day I was feeling a lot better. I had it done on Thursday and went back to work on Monday.
I tell everyone who asks to do all 4 at once. Why bother with the pain/discomfort 2 times, IMO.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had one done by my dentist when I lived upstate (not impacted) and it took over an hour and the recovery time was over a week. I was black and blue and my face was swollen to the size of a basketball. It was horrible.
I had two more done by an oral surgeon, and was fine maybe 4 days later. I think my first issues were due to having it done by a dentist--the oral surgeon said he does several wisdom tooth surgeries a day! It took a couple weeks to close up and be back to normal food. I ate rice that got stuck in the hole. The bottom holes are worse than the top to close up.
I did it with novocaine--from seeing people in the recovery area people were more sick from the anasthesia (vomiting, dizzy) than the surgery. Try to have someone drive you though.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had them all out at one. Within one week I was healed mostly (a little swelling remained). It takes months for the holes to close up though!

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had my two top ones done on seperate occasions. Both were only partially impacted but were erupted and had bad bad bad cavities. I had the 1st one done while I was PG because they would only do one then, and the second one done more recently. With both I felt fine within about 24 hours and just took regular tylenol for pain.
Over the summer I need to get the other two pulled and they want to knock me out because they are impacted and will take more work.

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
got em all done at once....all impacted. Did it on a Friday and attempted to go back to work on Tues...needed an extra day.
I think you'll be ok for Sat, as long as you take care of them and rest. I did lots of soup for protein/energy, icecream (for sympathy). Did not feel I needed the Vicodin....I was fine on the prescription Advil they gave me.
I will say that my friend drove me....and I got a milkshake on the way home....apparently I had dribbled it down my chin and did not know it until DH (who was my BF at the time) came home and laughed at me!!

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
I had all 4 done at once. 3 were impacted! I was in such bad pain and knocked out with pain meds for 2 days. I was back to normal 4-5 days later, but since I had stitches I had to be careful. SO I think you shoul dbe fine to work Sat. if yuo have it done on Monday. Good luck

Re: those who have had wisdom teeth pulled...
For one of them (I had 3 out on 3 different occasions) I went out to an open bar party in the city the next night - recovery wasn't so bad. The other two I don't think were that bad either after a day or two. A friend of mine had swollen and bruised cheeks but I never got that.
