anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I'm trying to get in to see a gastro ASAP... my ob/gyn kept dismissing my pain, telling me that it's normal to feel like this while everything is "going back into place". She told me to wait 3 months, then see how i feel.
DS is 12 wks tomorrow, and I was up ALLLLL NIGHT with horrible horrible upper abdominal pain. gas pain, heartburn, acid reflux, vomiting, etc. I slept a total of 2.5 hours (after taking 2 gasX and 3 pepcid complete).
It hurt SO BADLY, I swear it was worse than labor contractions. I have to go to work today. I've only been back 2 weeks and I already missed a day last week due to a severe allergic reaction with facial swelling. If I could get away with missing work, I would've gone to the E.R. last night. That's how much pain I'm in. It's 8am now and while I'm still in pain, it's not as bad. I can actually walk and lift the baby now - I wasn't able to do that all night.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I developed gall stones and passed one...it was worse then labor fully dilated! It sounds like you might be passing a stone and you should see a doctor soon. It can cause pancreaticitis (sp) which can be dangerous.

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I did not have the gall stones, but had the attacks. WHen they checked my gallbladder, they found out it had stopped working. (So stones aren't the only reason for the pain,) The gastro said they typically see most woman after giving birth.
Couponmom had hers out recently too, after having her second child. And LoveBeingMrsT had a horrible time WHILE PG with her second child. But somehow it righted itself once she gave birth.
Keep us updated!

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
It sounds like what I had 5 months after Bry was born. Little did I know I had gall stones. I had stomach pains here and there and went for a sono and it came back inconclusive. Well, one night, I had exactly what you are describing and DH rushed me to ER. I thought I was having a heart attack. Hurt so bad! Not even 24 hours later, I was in surgery for many gallstones and a very infected gall bladder. The Dr. said it is very common to happen after giving birth. Feel better and try to get to the Dr!

Pain came back about 8:20 - I was trying to lift the infant carrier into the car and was CRYING in the driveway. THANK YOU FEDEX MAN - he happened to be delivering an overnight envelope next door, saw me struggling, and lifted the seat for me.
Now I'm sitting at my desk (crying on the inside). mehhhhh.

SHORTY!!! If "it wasn't for work" you would have gone to the ER last night, YOU SHOULD GO TO THE ER (or the doctor at least)!!!! Your health (and being able to take care of Logan) is more important than your job!!
I called in sick (the second Monday in a row! ) just for a damn sinus infection (well, the baby is sick too and I was crying at 4AM worrying over the fact that I was not well enough to go to work ... DH told me - which really surprised me - F*CK work, stay home).

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
Sounds like gllstones. I had them with Amaya. She was born 8/13 and I had my gall bladder removed 10/21 because I had stoens that were trying to pass. It happens quite often after pregnancies. GO TO YOUR DOCTOR. The pain stops when the stone is passed but if one gets stuck it last so much longer and much more painful...I almost dropped Amaya at just a feww weeks old.

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I got gall stones after DS and had emergency surgery to remove it. I was vomiting blood. IMO the pain of a gall bladder attack is 10x worse than labor and c/s recovery. So after my surgery - I ended up with a staple floating in my abdomen which my obgyn found after my repeat c/s with DD 3 weeks ago.

Totally sounds like gall bladder. You should limit fatty foods as much as you can and see if that helps.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you have a full surgery or laproscopically?
It is certain it's from that surgery and not a c-section? I am utterly fascinated!

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I had a gall bladdr attack when Ryan was about 10 months old. It was awful, I went to the ER and said it was worse than my drug free delivery.
Stay away from fatty foods, and see if it gets better. I thought it was heartburn, until it got so bad. It hurt really bad too behind my shoulder blade

A friend of mine has gall bladder issues. Once they diagnosed it she has been able to control her attacks by maintaining a low fat diet.
Hope they can see you soon so you can get all this worked out!

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
My SIL had my nephew on Monday and her Gall bladder out on Friday in the same week. The drs told her the pain was normal to feel after a baby. She was freaking out, they FINALLY did some tests and off to surgery she went.

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
i do maintain a low fat diet, don't eat fried food, etc.
I saw a Dr this morning and he said it's very common for gall bladder to "go bad" very shortly after birth from the changes in estrogen. Has nothing to do with diet at all. He said it's 3x more common if you suffered from morning sickness (which as i'm sure all of you know by now, i had a horrible time with hyperemisis)
I'm waiting on further testing right now (through the ER here @ SB) but am pretty bored, sitting here with my bberry.

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
Totally happened to me...
10 days after DS was born had what I thought was bad indigestion...nope turned out to be gall stones.
Figured this out after three attacks in one week. Ended up in the ER twice on vacation in Massachusetts even though I wasn't eating fatty foods or anything at all. It was horrible pain.
Came home, had the surgery this past July and it was the best thing I have ever done. I have been totally fine since then.
They told me that pregnancy shifts things around and because I had a CS and all my organs get lifted and moved it probably moved all the stones into the ducts causing the problem.
Hope you feel better...I know horrible it feels....

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
oh nic - i'm so sorry. i didn't open this until now because it didn't happen to me pp - but i had a gall bladder attack a longgggg time ago.
one night i just had these horrible stomach pains and when i laid down they were worse. i was still living at home (i was like 19) and my mom told me to lay down and sleep it off. to this day she regrets telling me that because i woke her up 2 hours later and demanded that she take me to the er because it now hurt to breathe.
it wound up that i had a gallstone and it lodged itself in the opening to my gall bladder, so it was filling with bile and expanding and pushing on my lungs - hence the breathing pain. within 4 hours of getting to the er - i was in surgery.
do not EVER delay medical help because of work. if necessary - bring in your papers FROM the ER as proof that you were there.

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I had my gallbladder removed 4 weeks pp. I had my first attack 2 days after coming home from delivering.....and I was recovering from a c-section.
The pain was really bad, the pain radiated to my back. After an hour or so, it went away. But, the next time it happened... I went to the er. The pain was so bad and lasted awhile that I couldn't take it anymore.
It is very dangerous if you get pancreatis (sp?). So, I'm glad I went and took care of it.
It is VERY common to have gall bladder problems after having a baby.
It really is Horrible Pain!!!!!
I hope you feel better soon!!!

Re: anyone here have post-partum gall stones or hernia?
I am having some sort of GI issues and though not nearly as severe as some have mentioned, I am scheduled to see a GI (couldn't get in with the dr. I want to see until Nov. 2) At this point I have figured GI or ER, whichever one happens first. I have a feeling I am going to find out my issues are gallbladder related though . . .
