Anyone here have ulcerative colitis?

A close family member found out it's a possible diagnosis but going for further testing next week.

How is it managed? Is this a really bad diagnosis?

My best friend has Ulcerative Colitis. She has IBS on top of it, so for her... it's miserable. She is on several medications everyday and she literally has to wake up 2 hours before she needs to go anywhere to make sure she is feeling ok. It is the worst for her in the morning. She has good days and bad days and really needs to watch everything that she eats. It is not the most pleasant, but definitely manageable!

I have Crohns which is like UC.

There are so many varying degrees of these diseases.

I'm on a medication that keeps me in remission for the most part.

I live my life to the fullest and it doesn't stop me.

It may take a while to land on the right treatment but there are so many out there now. Yes, there are side effects but mostly they are minimal.

My cousin has it really bad but she was finally able to get well enough to carry on.

There may be times when it's worse than others but if she/he takes care of themselves they can live with it and have a happy productive life.

our friends DH has UC and had the bowel reconfiguration surgery and it was the best thing for him
