Anyone here read the Narnia series?
I feel stupid reading them. Just started the first book and I really like it so far. I've seen bits and pieces of the movies - did not care for them.
I started reading it because I love series, and I heard that these were really good.

I read the first two books many years ago but I want to read them again. Don't feel stupid! I actually just recently read The Golden Compass. It was okay, haven't picked up the rest of the series yet though.

Same here! I actually saw an older guy on the train the other day- business man, maybe late 40s and I peek at what he's reading... Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It made me smile.

Re: Anyone here read the Narnia series?
i read the whole thing a few years ago, and i agree with the pp, the first couple are great, but the rest are not so good. they are all very quick reads though.

Re: Anyone here read the Narnia series?
I read these in college for a fantasy literature class. Many people had read them as kids; I had not.
They are considered classics, so you really should read them if you are intersted in the fantasy genre.
I was reading a book for that class on Spring break by the pool at a resort in florida & a little kid came by & said he was reading it too & wanted to know what grade I was in!
Also, if you are interested in fantasy, the other series we covered were:
Madeline L'engel's Time Quintent ( includes Wrinkle inTime)
Susan Cooper's Dark Is Rising series
Ursula Leguin's Earthsea series. (Loved this--it's written for more YA & adult than Children--it's more complex.)
We also read the Hobbit, which isn't in a series but is a pre-curser to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Re: Anyone here read the Narnia series?
I actually read them for the first time after I saw The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe movie a few years ago. I loved them, and I was like 26 at the time.

I read the 1st book years ago and then never continued with the series. Eventually I will pick them up again.

Re: Anyone here read the Narnia series?
I love them.
Robbie and I read them together and they were great as a companion to the Bible as literature.
The Magician's Nephew is one of my favorites. The creation of Narnia - when Aslan walks across the land singing - it leaves me breathless. And The Last Battle - when the stars rain down from the sky - I cry every single time.

Re: Anyone here read the Narnia series?
When I was younger, I did not like to read. It was a big argument with my parents everytime I had to do a book report growing up. In order to make the task a little easier my dad would pick out a book & read it on his own first. Thats when he introduced me to the Narnia series. I want to say that I first read The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe when I was in the 4th grade. Shortly after I finished the series & have re-read the series numerous times. For our anniversary one year DH purchased the box set for me & to this day I still cherish that gift.

I read them for the first time as when I was 27 - and I cried very hard when I reached the end.
