Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
Just curious if you had to do anything special to conceive and/or sustain the pregnancy. TIA.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I had sporadic cycles that ranged from 35-45 days. The month I got pregnant, it seems I must have been on a 40+ day cycle, based on my LMP and when I conceived.
As far as getting pregnant, you might need to monitor fertile days later than the dates that standard cycles give. For example, while many people with 28 day cycles will O on CD14-16 -- people like us don't O until sometimes CD20 or even later.
If you use OPKs you might need to start testing later than the CD9 or 10 they recommend, or buy a bunch and test from then on until you get a smiley.
As for as sustaining -- there should be no difference in sustaining it than anyone else who has a regular cycle.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
my cycles going off BCP were very very long. my first was something like 39 days, my second was over 40. during my third cycle, i finally got a clear positive on an OPK on CD 47. that is the cycle we conceived. we made sure to have sex that day and the two days after. additional things i did were to take vitex and drink raspberry leaf tea starting that last cycle. i didnt go crazy with either of these, but id have two cups a day and i halved the recommended dosage of the vitex.
good luck to you and feel free to FM if you have more questions!!

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I was on cycle day 90 something I think when I got my bfp. We tried for months TTC using opks, temping, red raspberry leaf tea, etc but it didn't work for us. I did acupuncture in an effort to regulate my cycle so we just decided to stop TTC and get regulated and try in a few months. Well I got a surprise bfp after doing acupuncture for a lil over a month. I think for me I was stressing too much which was my problem. Ps I do not have pcos and apparently I was ovulating on my own, just didn't get af.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
My cycles were very irregular. Mostly 59 days and 34 days switching off every other month, but sometimes 83, 65, etc etc.
We did not do anything additional while TTC and we conceived in 3 cycles. I was going to talk to my doctor after 6 cycles (or 6 months probably) if we were having problems.
Good luck to you!!!

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
My cycles were that and a lot longer ( sometimes only having AF 4x a year)
Diagnosed by an RE with having mild PCOS...After having my 1st DC, my cycles turned more regular but still w/out ovulation
We conceived by IUI (DS), IVF (DD) and currently PG with a FET cycle

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
i have PCOS and my ovulatory cycles were around 40+ and my anov cycles we usually cut off with provera between 60-90 days. if you have long cycles the first thing you need to do is confirm that you are actually ovulating, with either bloodwork from a doctor or by temping for a cycle or two. once you confirm that you ovulate regularly there isnt much you need to do different. if you arent ovulating then you'll need to see a doctor and do meds. i wasnt ovulating with any consistency, and due to PCOS i had high hormone levels which are known to cause poor egg quality. i ended up doing a bunch of medicated cycles and then ultimately got my sticky BFP from IVF.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I never would have gotten pregnant without using an OPK. Helped me pinpoint when I was ovulating since my cycles are so off
good luck!!

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I had long cycles, even on bcp. Did not ovulate more often than not. Somehow I conceived this baby on day 39. Holy shock! LOL
I would think buying a 100pk of cheap internet opks and testing often would be your best bet to see if/when you're ovulating.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I had always had irregular cycles, 1-3 months long before the pill. I got my BFP on cd56 (likely conceived on cd43) my first cycle off the pill. By that point I didn't think I was even ovulating, and I don't think I did anything "special" -- we had pretty much given up hope and were waiting it out until my dr appt for provera on cd78
We tried preseed at the beginning of my cycle but stopped because I didn't want to waste it, I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea to help shorten my cycle but it turned out I had already conceived by that point, we only BD 1-2x a week, and I wasn't using OPKs.
Next time around we will use cheapy OPKs with the smiley OPKs to confirm, but I'm living proof that anything is possible, even for those of us with wacky cycles

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
My cycles were roughly 40-42 days long when I went off the pill. I have PCOS and saw an RE for fertility treatments. I got PG on my 5th IUI using injectables.
I also just found out that I have the MTHFR gene mutation in a VERY mild form. Not sure if that played a role in my issues as well, but I don't think that contributes to the long cycles.
There have been plenty of women who conceive naturally with long cycles. Are you using OPKs and temping? If you've been trying for a year or longer I would suggest seeing an RE. Good luck!!

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
My cycles off of bc were about 60-75 days. I took metformin and got pregnant on it...I'm currently 8 weeks and still on it.

Re: Anyone here who has LONG cycles 40+ days?
I was on BCP for 15 years...was nervous what would happen when I went off since I went on them at 18 for very irregular cycles. I had 3 normal cycles right away...they were 6 weeks long each. Then I went 100+ days with no AF - I lost track counting the days and OB put me on provera to bring on a period. That was when I knew I wanted to start seriously TTC (used condoms before that - wanted to just watch my cycles to see if I could figure them out). I started using OPM...which stopped asking for sticks after 20-something days...then I just started using OPK sticks...that monitor was a waste of $ in my case b/c of my long cycles...the sticks work fine. I O'd on cd52 and 10 days later got my BFP. I swear by those sticks...I would have never know when to try if it wasn't for them. Good luck!
