Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
We're replacing our kitchen floor and are debating hiring vs my DH doing it. We've heard it's fairly easy- any experiences?

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
We are in the process of re-doing our bathroom and putting in ceramic tile. DH is doing all the work. It really isnt that complicated from what he said but he is a pretty handy person anyway.

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
I have 2 guys in as we speak doing our kitchen floor...its a bit of a messy hard job really. Yesterday they ripped the tiles up and tonight they are going to put this levelling compound down, so we can't even go into the kitchen!!! What a PITA! I can't wait until its done!!

FH and his BIL do it - you need a wet saw, other than that its pretty easy.

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
We did it - it's super easy. Pick up a basic tiling book from the library to get an idea of what's involved. We didn't even buy a wetsaw (any cuts we couldn't make with a scorer we brought to Home Depot to do).
the most important part is to make a straight chalk line - after that youre set

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
We did it twice now... VERY easy, really. I suggest you pick up a book on tiling, do a little research online and maybe take one of those classes at Home Depot or Lowes.

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
We just finished tiling our guest bathroom. We installed a new tiled shower and floor. We had help with the shower floor but the shower walls and floor we did ourselves. Here are before and after pics.
We still have painting a vanity install, glass doors (on order) and toilet install remaining. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
my DH did it. Granted he's a carpenter and a fairly handy guy, but it was a very small bathroom. A kitchen I think you would need to two people for.

I got it from ROMA Tile on Vets Hwy in Holbrook. They don't have the best looking showroom but they stock their tile. The brand is NovaBell. It's on display in their store.

Re: Anyone install their own ceramic tile?
My DH and FIL did our kitchen and bathrooms. He didnt use a wet saw and it came out gorgeous! It's easy once you get going. Laying out the patterns and getting everything you need is the hardest part (which is easy as well). If you think you can do it, I would do it your self.
