Anyone interested in a play date with a 5 year old?
My 5 year old desperately wants to play with someone. We don't have a lot of family with kids his age or neighbors with kids his age so his play time with other kids is limited. He's energetic and likes to play with trains, cars, and Legos. He loves to ride his scooter. I know this may sound weird, but I feel bad because he just started kindergarten and I think he needs some play time with some kids on the weekends other than his one year old sister. Please let me know if you are interested. We live in Melville.

Why don't you call the kids in his class for a playdate?

I don't really know any of them and I'm not super social. I figure eventually I will get to know them maybe through birthday parties.

I think that is probably more ideal than meeting people you don't know on the internet for a playdate. The kids he goes to school with will eventually become his good friends so I would try to start with that. Does your teacher put out a friendship list? If not yet, I would ask if he/she will be doing one.

When DS started K last year we got a lot of calls from moms I didn't know at all for play dates. Some of these boys have become his closest friends! Some of the moms I clicked with and became my friends - some I didn't - that didn't mean the boys didn't stay friends though! I would ask your DS who he would like to have a play date with from his class and get the email or phone number off the class list and contact the parent. I bet the other parent will be happy to know your DS likes her DC! Good luck
ETA: Also, does your town have sports like soccer or baseball? Or classes like science or art etc? These activities are also a great way for your son to meet boys from his school. It works out great because then, next year, when he has some different faces in his class - he will already know them from activities! When my DS started 1st grade this year he was so happy because he had 4 great friends in his class - only one was in his class last year - the others he met from activities in our town!
