Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

Just reviewing our budget and most of our bills are fixed-----can't do much about that.

But I have really found my huge downfall to just be going to Target or the grocery store on the weekends. On average I spend $60.00-$100.00.

I think I just need to avoid those places altogether and use what we have on hand.

Is Monday too soon to start?

That would give everyone whose interested in joining to have the weekend to stock up on stuff for your freezer/pantry.

Then you can jump in throughout the week to share ways you've been saving money in general.........

We can also provide each other support in general to not spend on stuff we really do not need!!!!

Sounds like a good idea... I think "Official XXX Treads" work well - people tend to keep them up more.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

I boycott Target. This store is too much temptation. I end up with $200-$300 in my cart everytime I go there.

Monday is a good day to start.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

I'd be down for jumping in on this.

It's just DH and I (and three furbabies), and right now I'm working on paying off some old debt (my own, not DH's) as well as a hefty surgery bill (also mine, not DH's)....would be great to learn some tips on saving more each month...means extra money available to pay these dang bills off.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

This has been my new approach.

I love Target. I get EVERYTHING at Target. Mine has groceries - and a full on supermarket.

But I drop a lot of $$ everytime I go and was going 1-2x/wk Chat Icon

So, new rule for myself.

I only go every other week. I keep to my list. If I need something on the off week I go to Traders Joe's or a small market (for things like eggs, bread, milk)

I will do the budget challenge but I can't promise I will stay out of target. I've mastered the art of getting in and getting out quickly with exactly what I need and nothing more. Go at 9:30 at nightChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

I very rarely go to Target. My downfall is going to the supermarket during my lunch hour to "pick up a few things" and it would end up being $80.

Can I modify for me since I don't go to Target?

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

yeah I'd be in

ETA: for me its both Target AND the grocery store. I have told hubby we only get to go once a week. Getting tired of spending money AND wasting gas for daily trips to the store.

Our Target is closer than the grocery store and does actually carry stuff my grocery store doesnt (Rx stuff) so its a toss up.

My downfall is not going to the supermarket and saying let's go out tonight.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

Michael's is my downfall. I get lost in the cake decorating section. I excuse it since it's my side business, but it's seriously gotten ridiculous. I'll go in just for some dye or gum paste and I'll walk out with $100 worth of stuff.

I am in! I've made 2 Target runs this week, it doesn't help that it is right around the corner from my job. I honestly can't walk out of there buying just what I need, there is always more!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a budgeting challenge?

yes, target can cause you to spend more - but a lil tid bit - u can use target coupons & manufacturer coupons together on the same item

ie - i got Dove Deodarent for .64, Kraft homestyle Mac & cheese for .94 and Caress body wash for 1.75..
