Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

Looking forward to it.
Planning on taking a long lunch and heading to Bryant Park in midtown to watch it.

Even have an extra pair of glasses for my phone, if I want to take pictures or video.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

Yes - Does anyone know where I can get legit glasses not online - in store - for my family to watch safely? I waited too long! Thanks so much if anyone can help!

It's practically impossible to find the glasses now and of course I waited too long..: so my son and I will make a viewing box and look at it that way, then probably go somewhere like the movies when he's bored with doing that. I am so annoyed at myself! Oh well.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

According to The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (and several other sites I looked at)
https://www.rasc.ca/tov/safety?page=0%2C6
You can stack welding goggles to get to a level 14.

Harbor Freight has welding goggles. Two pair for $5 or $6. These goggles are #10 lenses, so if you get the pair, you can stack them and look at the sun.

https://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-welding-goggles-set-35711.html

#20 may be too dark, but since these are Harbor Freight, I doubt they're on the darker side of the #10 range, so they are probably pretty close to what you want.

I have a pair of these, so I think I'll test them out over the weekend. I have helmets that are dark enough, but I only have two helmets, so I plan on using some of my other welding gear as well.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

I ordered mine from here .

Ordered a pack of 10, to give some to DH and his buddies to watch this and in case I am feeling nice at work that day I can share.
I got them within 3 days of ordering.

I'll be out in it but I won't be looking at it (didn't bother looking for glasses). My DS will be at camp and I'm a little paranoid that there will be to many kids to wrangle and they won't be able to stop the kids from looking at it directly. They said they were going to get glasses, but I hypothesize it was too late for them to find enough for the groups.

I'm worried about DD too. I want to find out what time it will be around here and tell DH to keep her inside.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

I'm going to experience it outside during my lunch break but I won't be looking - I don't have the glasses, never bothered to order them. But I feel like even if I did, I'd second guess if they were legit and wouldn't use them. I suspect everything.

The glasses I ordered (from a NASA approved vendor) came yesterday. I just ordered them on Monday and was "sure" they wouldn't come on time (even though the site said they would). I'm psyched to watch!

Re: Anyone planning on watching the eclipse?

I'm also looking forward to seeing all of the professional photos/clips of the eclipse on-line. It's cool being able to watch the partial eclipse in person, but I'm also looking forward to seeing high-quality footage from the total eclipse locations.

I should have put that down as a choice. There have been a couple of astronomical events that I haven't been able to experience in person, but I did check out the images on-line afterwards.

You'll appreciate this Nell.My boss told me yesterday she may not come in Monday since it's supposed to be a beautiful day and she wants to go to beach. I said not on Monday, its the eclipse, you have to be careful! She laughed at me, said she won't not live her life because of it , and she also thinks we are too far away, and you can't go blind from it! I could only shake my head and hope in net couple days she actually reads an article or something!

Not really. The sun is in the sky every day, it's just that on Monday, people plan on staring at it. As long as DD knows not to look at the sun (either Monday, or any other day), she'll be fine.

Even though it will be darker than normal doesn't mean it's safe to look.
