Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
Anyone have any input? We have done so much research and it just sounds like a good thing to do. We can get a beautiful house for a great price and it's a great place to raise children.
Anybody have good or bad things to tell??? I'm all ears...

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
we thought about it at one time but DH didn't want to leave his family behind nor his job. We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase something here.
On a side note, we just had friends of ours purchase a home to be built in Concord, NC this past weekend. They got a great deal & should be down there by June

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
It was a hard decision to us, but we didn't want to struggle up here, plus we wanted to be able to live on one income so I can stay home with our future children......So, we made the plunge and bought a house in NC....the house is brand-new, sits on almost 3 acres, and the taxes are incredibly cheap.....we have no doubts that we made the right decision...
As much as it hurts me to leave my mother who I am very close to, we had to do what was right for us.

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
we also thought about it briefly. We did research for our jobs (i LOVE my job and company, but we arent in NC) - and FH who is a teacher would take a drastic pay cut. I woudl take a pay cut too in my industry.
So it was either buy a new house in NC or an old house up here and have the same amount of $ left each month.
we decided to stay here and buy. We would rather stay near our families.

we live in NC and we love it, I could never go back to NY. The town we live in is great and I love the area, the weather, the prices of houses, it is all very reasonable

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
We live in Huntersville right now. I like it, DH still needs to warm up to it.
Its hard, I got the phone call from hell yesterday...my mother crying, her job(she's a nurse) won't give her off the week of Christmas..so she is crying, she will not be celebrating christmas this year since she can't be around the baby(I am due 12/18).
She is coming right before Christmas, then back the 1st week in January..but that still isn't enough for her. I feel so bad, but if we lived in NY, I would have to work, and down here, I don't have to.
We were going to buy a house right away, deal fell through, which is okay..we are realizing with DH's job, the more open he is to location flexibility, the more money he can make.

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
We moved to Chesapeake VA. I like the area and I like our house but I don't like the property its on. We have a small lot. But we where kinda on a time constraint so we "settled" but the utilities are much cheaper & taxes are much much less. Thankfully DH was able to move with his salary but I will have to take a big pay cut once I go back to work. Its def easier to live but I miss my friends and family a lot!

DH's 4 best friends all moved to the Lake Norman area of N.C. It would not have been the right move for us, though, and now we miss our friends terribly! One of them is now a realtor down there, specializing in relocating to N.C. FM me if you want a contact. We went to visit and it's a nice area.

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
I have a friend who just moved down there 2 weeks ago, to SC just over the border from Charlotte, and she already loves it. I miss her but I cant deny that she will have a great life down there. Smaller mortgage, bigger house, lower taxes, job opportunities that dont exist here unless you want to go into Manhattan, better daycare for her kids....I wish we could move but my DHs job is here and hes not leaving any time soon. Plus he wouldnt want to move anyway...

Road trip '07 Liz!!
DH and I gave NC some thought. I did a ton of research and we were going to make a trip down there this past summer... then... we realized he's married to his job. If we gave up his pension and benefits at this point in our lives, we'd regret it.
Good luck!

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
We went to look in September. We liked a tiny town near Wake Forest called Rolesville. We looked in Cary, Apex and Wake Forest.
I also looked near Charlotte. I liked Concord and loved the Lake Wylie,SC area near Charlotte.
If we didn't overpay a ton for our house we bought last year we would have moved already. I loved it there so much!

Re: Anyone relocating further south-say NC??
I live in Raleigh and LOVE it. We moved here last year and it was the best decision we could make. It was hard to leave our families and friends but we have such a better life here. We bought an incredible home we could never dream of owning in NY and the envirnonment here is so much more of what I would want to raise my kids in one day.
Any questions, ask away!
