I am trying to cut on cost and wonder if it's worth it to demo the bathroom myself to cut on cost. Then have someone install redo the bathroom.

Did anyone do that?

My dh is a contractor and he said you wouldn't really save any money. Maybe about $300-$500.

we did, we ripped it to the bare bone and removed any damaged wood too, we saved 1500.00 but honestly it was such a mess and dusty next time around Im going to let the contractors do it.
it was heavy too, our bathroom was all tiles all four walls from ceiling to floor and ceiling too it was a nightmare.

wanted to add, yes we had to get a dumpster and it filled really quickly but what a nightmare, the dust ugh.

I agree, you still need a dumpster and the demo only kills a few hours of time.

Plus you take the responsibility and liability if you scratch up the rest of your home (floors, walls).

You can get people on craigslist to do this demo on the cheap. I would say under $500 is very possible.

Most contractors would tell you there is no savings. However, if you get a quote from a contractor have them itemize the quote to see how much they will charge for each item, some will not do it, some will. Doing this will give you an idea of the savings if you do any part of the job yourself.

As pp said, demo only runs around $300. You will spend that in a dumpster rental. Not worth the aggrivation IMO!

We demoed our kitchen and put out a few cabinets each week during bulk days and put out the doors and drawers on the regular garbage days - so you don't have to get a dumpster.

we were thinking about demoing our bathroom and then having someone install everything too.

Im suprised at all the low quotes, we saved 1500.00 for doing the demo ourselves but for us to do it again not worth it but for someone else 1500.00 is a nice chunk.

The rate is dependant on the size of the demo to be done and the contractor.
