Anyone scared??
To start their new job in Sept? I was so used to my school and the kids that starting somewhere new is really nerve wracking!! I'm going in tomorrow for a workshop and I know this sounds like a kid but I'm not going to know anyone!! I'm a nervous person to begin with so this doesn't help!! Anyone else????

Re: Anyone scared??
I'm starting a new job in Sept and definitely have had moments of anxiety. I'm trying to counter it by being prepared-- all of my first week material is done as well as my first unit plan. I still need to work on some dittos and my first test but I feel better as I have started preparing. Hang in there, it is def nerve wracking to start a new teaching job!

I'm moving from private school to public school too! I found out who my mentor was and met with her to get curriculum, state assessment info, and lesson plan format. My team met in early July with the principal to discuss general school info.
I teach middle school Social Studies so it may be different where you are.

Re: Anyone scared??
I'm not scared to start in a new school. I am very excited to be going back to work, however, I am going to miss being home with my children.

I am a special ed. teacher too... and my first year at the school i am at now, i had an axierty attack the ngiht before school started. what's difficult about special ed. is you really can't plan too too much until you learn your kids. unlike general ed. where you have a a set curriculum, your curriculum is what the kids needs are... my kids are 5th grade, so i do touch on 5th grade curriculum, but i have to cover a lot of 3rd and 4th gade skills they did not master.
if you're inclusion or resource room, a lot of what you will teach and re-teach and pre-teach will be an extension of what the general ed. teacher is doing . can you see if you can meet up with the teacher(s) that you'll be owrking with.
I did that the summer before my first year...we e-mailed a lot and got together before school started and that really helped
I don't get nervous anymore...i know the curriculum now and all my colleauges...it does get better, i promise! GOOD LUCK!

ETA: you should be getting a curriculum guide or map.... when certain units of study are taught, etc. i would call your prinicpal. ask for curriculum guides. also, ask for an e-mail or phone number for any teachers you mgiht be owrking with and get some communication going... see if you can meet with them now or in august.... the ffirst day of school is not when you should be meeting for the first time.

Re: Anyone scared??
I'm pretty scared too. Not only am I in a new school, but it's my first time in public school. I'm also in a new grade, in a new state!!! It's a lot to take on at once. I haven't really started preparing much, other than doing some research. It's hard to make the jump from Kindergarten to 4th Grade!
We'll all be ok though...right?
