Anyone see a nutritionist?
A very good friend of mine is a licensed nutritionist with her masters from Columbia Univ. She offered to help me get my weight under control. She understands that with the baby I don't have as much time to prepare really healthy meals, so I've been eating a lot of micro pizza, fast food, etc. She says she can help me prepare healthy meals quickly so that I can get back on track with my weight loss. She usually charges $150 per hour, she is going to see me for $75 per hour. Do you think it's worth it? Since I am no longer working, I'm a little nervous about the money, although DH says it's fine.
She said that after the initial consultation, we can meet when I want, weekly, 2x a month, 1x per month. I figured it would start weekly and then move to 2x per month and then 1x per month.
Would you do it?
Thanks. Cathy

I say you give it a shot-If you see it's not working you can always stop going. If your DH says its fine-why not? Have you tried WW? Good Luck!!

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
I did WW a long time ago and lost a lot of weight (that I put back on after I got married and when I was preggo ) but I just don't have the patience right now to count points.
I care for my elderly grandmother as well as my daughter, so I'm looking for time saving help, you know? It's too easy for me to pull through Micky D's on my way home from my mom's when I'm done with my grandmother.

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
Could she give you some tips for free? I wouldn't charge a friend for help. But if she can't do it for free during her work hours, maybe just giving you some healthy meal choices or something?
I have one at work I can see for free but haven't yet. My philosophy is that I know what I should be eating...It's a matter of me buying and eating it!

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
She offered to do it for free, but I know that I'm taking time away from her that she could have a paying client, so I insisted on paying. I just had no idea that it was so much!
That's my other thought, I know what I should be eating, so why pay to hear the same thing over?
ETA: I guess that answers my own question. I was just secretly hoping that someone would say "Yes! I used one and lost a ton of weight and kept it off forever!" LOL.

That's what I think too. I think she would tell me to journal what I eat now, then cut the carbs and eat more good carbs, fruits, and veggies. It's just a matter of self discipline to follow what you should be eating.
ETA: I've been lacking in the self discipline department.

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
Could your insurance cover it if she writes them a letter of medical necessity??

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
One of my friends went to one for a while and she liked that aside from losing weight the nutritionist was teaching her how to incorporate healthier choices into her life without being overwhelmed. So the first week she was asked to journal. The second week she was instructed to drink 8+ glasses of water. The third week she was shown how to introduce more veggies into her diet while not being a veggie eater. Etc.
There were a lot of baby steps instead of that kamikaze dive a lot of people make when trying to commit to weight loss which can frequently lead to being overwhelmed and failure (I am sooooo guilty of this )
She felt it was worth it, but I don't know how much weight she lost.

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
karen: I never even thought that insurance would cover it. I'll have to look into our plan to see how that works.
Christine: thanks for the input! it gives me a lot to consider. i think lately i can't get back on ww because it's such a drastic change from my eating habits now, so perhaps baby steps would help.
thanks again!

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
I have 4 friends that go to a nutrionist. All have been successful in losing A LOT of weight. The thing is, no matter what they teach you, you have to be willing to change your lifestyle and live it. One friend gained weight back when she met her now DH. Another friend just couldn't follow it.
The other two are like new people, what a change, and they are living it every day and making the choices to eat right and lead a healthy lifestyle. they lovethe way they look and they enjoy eating right and excercising.

Could not agree more! I know what I should do, it's a matter of doing it. I am every busy and have crazy hours that start as early as 5am and end as late as 10:30pm. I make it a point now to pack my meals, and fit in at least 30 minutes a day. It's slow, but the weight I want is coming off and I feel much better!!!

Thanks for the input! This is what I was like when I was on WW like 5 years ago, but then DH & I moved in together and I got super comfortable with him. We worked late and always brought in take out food at like 9pm, and now I'm totally out of the WW lifestyle. Ugh. I know what I have to do, it's just not as fun as eating cookies.

Re: Anyone see a nutritionist?
the two I am talking about are actually roomates. One is a nurse who works crazy hours and the other is a speech therapist. They help each other by making foods to keep in the fridge (while the other is out) and it helps that they have a support system in the house. I cannot believe the change of confidence these two girls have gone through. They were both considered heavy all through HS, College and into adulthood and now they are having the time of their life. I'm thrilled for them.
