Anyone take melatonin for insomnia?

Not sure how many to take...if I should just do what the bottle says.

I need to fall asleep...can't deal with the tossing and turning...and I quit Ambien.

Debra (virginadeb) aren't you a teacher? Do you have to go into work today? You must be exhausted after not sleeping last night!

Yep, I'm a teacher, and yep, I have to work.

I've done it on no sleep before though. Heck, I've done it every day only getting an hour or two a night, if anything.

I'll probably just crash at like 7 tonight. Poor DH Chat Icon

That must be though.
I'm thankful that I have no problems falling asleep...I just have to put my face on the pillow and two seconds later, I'm out. And I can sleep like 10 hours straight...if my husband doesn't wake me up on my days off, I will probably can wake up around 1pm.....Chat Icon
Anyway....why don't you speak to your doctor....they now have a slow releasing Ambien so that might help you better to sleep since the medication is released gradually.
Wishing you many sleepy nights...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone take melatonin for insomnia?

I take amitryptiline for my insomnia. It has been a huge help for me. I take it a few hours before bed and have a great night sleep and I don't feel groggy in the morning! I call them my happy blue pills!

I take Unisom. When I was pg the OB said it was safe...that was a year ago and I am still taking it every night.

I took melatonin and it worked great for me. It does take a few days for it to kick in and work its magic though

Re: Anyone take melatonin for insomnia?

I took it last night...fell asleep within in 10-15 minutes and feel well rested this AM.

Now, don't know if it was the Melatonin but I will continue for a week or so and see how it goes.

With Ambien I wake up tired...but i fall asleep within minutes of taking. Bad!

I have to check what Unisom is...not sure about that one.

I got the melatonin at the drugstore...$5 for 120 pills.

Re: Anyone take melatonin for insomnia?

I had a serious addiction to Ambien that I was able to kick recently. Please, I beg, be very careful on Ambien if you are taking it. I blacked out on alot of what was going on, I did things I normally wouldn't do, say things that were completely made up and I got into TWO car accidents. It stays in your body longer than you think. I would get up in the morning and think I was fine, only to later find out I was sleep walking!!!! If you need to take a sleeping medication, try Target brand sleeping pills. I found that they help me get a better nights sleep than Ambien. If you are considering Ambien please google the horror stories, I know it is true, first hand.
