anyone taking the bar exam this week
Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time the "anniversary" of my exam passes, I feel weird, like I should be studying, like I better hurry and go check into the hotel. Or I better figure out the Rule Against Perpetuities right NOW. Or I feel like, wow, I actually saw the sun this year, unlike THAT summer. Or I feel OLD. It has been 14 years and I can still tell you what I wore, who I ran into at the exam site and the whole story of the boyfriend who picked a fight the minute I got home (******* coulda let me rest for a minute).
I always tell this to anyone taking the test: When I was studying, there was one company that had a review course whose slogan was" Do It Once, Do It Right. Never again."
Best of Luck and it will be behind you very soon!!!

Re: anyone taking the bar exam this week
I e-mailed my friend to ask if he also felt weird that the bar exam is this week. He took the exam 2 years after me. The weekend before his exam, I went roller blading with his wife while he was studying. We had a great time and we were laughing all day and I guess we went out that night. When she got home after 1am, she woke him up b/c she wanted to contiinue the festivities and hang out with him. He still blames me for getting her all giddy (it's not like I did anything with her)!!!! So, I am part of other people's bar exam memories, too.
Good luck again everyone.

Re: anyone taking the bar exam this week
Good luck to all of you legal hopefuls out there! It's been four years since I took NY...and then b/c I'm a sucker (and my firm told me to) I took NJ two years later in 2005 - and even had to take the multistate again for it because NJ doesn't accept it unless you take it at the same time ! Absolute torture...

This is hysterical- and so NOT me. I don't even pay attention anymore, have no clue what I wore or anything. But I cant go into the Jacob Javits Center thinking about that Bar exam 7 years ago.
Best of luck to everyone taking it!! For all those wives of husbands taking the bar- Bless you for being supportive to your DH during this stressful time!!

Not me, but I was wondering, why do you have to check into a hotel?? my goodness, how long is it?! My licensing exam was horrendous, so I can kind of relate, but it was only 4 or so hours.
Good luck to anyone taking the bar soon!

Mine's staying in a hotel - he didn't want to deal with possible train/subway delays or wake up any earlier than he had to just to get to his testing location (he's at Union Square).
It buys him more sleep/alone study time.
And, both days are long and grueling.

Re: anyone taking the bar exam this week
I didn't stay in a hotel for NY. I lived in Brooklyn and just took a car service with a friend.
For NJ I got a hotel room. I didn't want to deal with commuting to NJ - especially the day after finishing NY.

I was living on Long Island. It was 2 full days of testing in NY city, then travel to NJ for a test day there. Even people who lived in the boroughs were staying in midtown. At that time, everyone from the NY area was taking it at Javits. Now some people get other locations.
Another weird memory--to sign up for the exam I had to go to a police station to be finger printed. At the time, I was very young looking, small and skinny (times have really changed). The cops thought it was funny that I was this little girl being printed. They were all flirting with me. . At the time, they were using black ink for the prints and then I had to stick my hands in GOOP (stuff like mechanics use to get grease off their hands). I was so grossed out by the GOOP and I would barely put my hand in. Finally, a cop came over and shoved my entire arm in, up to my elbow. Then, he gave me his SCPD hat. What a weird time at the police station.

And, both days are long and grueling.
And you know that's an understatement!
I don't think anyone who hasn't gone through it or lived with someone who's gone through it can even fathom the stress. You think "it's one hard test!" but you don't get how physically, mentally, and emotionally draining it is.
To those taking the exam, it's almost over. You can do it!! Get some rest. You know more law right now than you ever will. Be confident!!
ETA - and I think those who put up with the ones taking it probably deserve more credit than those of us who took it!

Re: anyone taking the bar exam this week
I remember not being too stressed out about the bar exam. I kept telling myself that less than 5% of people from my school failed and, as long as I kept going to BarBri and doing the work, that wasn't going to be me. It was like a little mantra
The day before the bar exam, I checked into that sketchy Best Western near the Javitz Center.... this is where all my nerves of steel went to h e l l. Got to my room and decided to relax for a little bit. Like I always do, I took the bedspread off because I don't think they clean it very often. Well, there I am, laying on the bed, when I touch something hard and crusty on the bed. I look over and it's not only hard and crusty, but it's white and in the middle of the bed. You can guess what it was. That was all I needed to set me off. I almost had a nervous breakdown right then and there. I had housekeeping come up and change everything on the bed, but I still almost slept in a chair instead.

My brother went to UPenn and wasn't allowed to take the test in NYC (those spots are reserved for people who have gone to law school in the city), so he wound up being assigned to Albany. He had already been hired and his firm booked a suite of rooms at the nicest hotels and had limos drive them in the morning. He was editor of the law review and top 3 in his class and was still freaking out.
