Anyone thinking of upgrading their camera for when the little one comes?
I am thinking I want to get a DSLR camera before the baby comes. I LOVE taking pictures and this baby will be my new subject  A few of my Mommy friends have Nikon cameras and their pictures are gorgeous. The only thing is having to lug one more thing around instead of a smaller camera.
Are you planning on upgrading your camera if you don't already have one? If so what are you getting?

Baby is due in June. I'll be getting DH a really good camera for his b-day in May. We need a new camera and I really want a good (not just for baby).

i already have the canon rebel xti DSLR. its a few years old now but the quality is still amazing. at this point i dont plan on getting a new one. i highly recommend the canon rebel series. they are really easy to use even if you have no experience with SLR manual settings. i had a nikon before, it wasnt quite an SLR but sort of like the step right before SLR. it was OK but i never loved it. as for any DSLR just be aware that almost all of them have subpar onboard flashes, since they are truly made for custom lighting. this wont be a factor if you shoot outdoors or in natural light, but indoors, especially in places with poor fluorescent lighting (like school gyms for example) the brightness leaves a little to be desired.

I want to get a speedlight flash as well. That makes a big difference with the Nikon's. At work we use a Canon DSLR and that is really nice but was $$$.

DH has a Nikon D80, and we love it. We are probably going to get a new lens or two, but not a new camera.

I told DH that I want one of the fancy cameras for when LO arrives. We were going to get on for xmas, but decided to wait until it's closer to my dd (June) in case any new models come out.

We're going to get one but haven't decided whether we're getting a Canon Rebel or a Nikon yet.

DH bought me a DSLR when we got married in 2005
It was THE absolute best $1,000 ever spent.
When Sean was born in 2009 I literally used it every single day and have never spent a dime on a professional photographer - I have THE MOST beautiful pictures.
Mine crapped out on me a few months ago and I was in a panic, but we replaced it w/ a new Canon Rebel T2i for Christmas ...............AMAZING camera - Gorgeous pics - and of course w/ the tech. advances over the past 5 years SO much lighter, easier to use, etc.
It is worth every single penny you will spend x 1,000,000,000

IL's purchased a new Canon Rebel DSLR camera over the summer and we planned on upgrading to the same one when we got PG.

We have a Nikon D80 and love it. Recently bought a speedlight and it made a HUGE difference.
We are considering selling the D80 to my BIL and upgrading to the D90 (which has video too) or a higher model but aren't fully decided.

We did not upgrade to the DSLR until DD was 2. If you can do it now, I say go for it! You won't regret it. We still got great pics with our other digital, but just not the same.

We found out I was pg about 3 weeks before my 30th bday. DH bought me A DSLR for my bday. I have been playing with it for a few months and LOVE it

we got the nikon d3000 a couple of months ago. i wish i got it b4 ds #1 was born.
so happy i have it for when ds#2 arrives

DO IT!
i waited until DS was 3 weeks and I regret not having it in the hospital (though we got some great shots with my point and shoot)...
this is one of the biggest moments in your life - have it ready!
ETA - we got the Canon T1i and LOVE it. Has HD video as well!
