anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?

My district proposed an AB model for elementary so kids will be in 2 days 1 week and 3 the next. I can deal with that but I wish it was the same days like MW or TTH with rotating Friday.
The way they did it is alternating each day so 1st week were in Tues/Thurs and next week Mon/Wed/Fri.

For my middle schooler, they did an ABCD model so she will be 1 day a week with 1 week out of the month in 2 days.

I have no idea how I'm planning coverage for when I have to go into the office. I can't do a day care bc it's all different days.

Hoping to find a college student who is very flexible.

Anyone else have set ups like this? All of my friends in other districts say their kids are going back 5 days a week in elementary.

anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?

They are unveiling the "final" plan tonight but, what was presented was either an A/B or an AA/BB schedule. My kids will go to school either on M/Tu or M/Th each week. The days they are home it will be 100% asynchronous learning that needs to be done during school hours. They are are in 3 and 5 (elementary and middle school).

K-2 is going 4 days. School will be closed on Weds for cleaning.

I'm not happy... I feel they were going to get more synchronous learning if they were fully remote. Luckily I can work from home forever but, it's starting to drain on me being a full time worker and a full time parent (and it's not even school time right now). Thankfully I will be crazy at work the next few weeks so my big project will be done once school starts.

I don't even know what my district's plan is so there's that.
They told us the standard 3 options pending the governor's decision.
Since he made the decision on Friday I haven't heard anything.

I would even prefer knowing the set days but I understand what you mean about them possibly learning more on a full remote schedule.

That's crazy that they haven't put their plan out yet.
I thought my district was really late getting it up.
They didn't give any other option though- so no 100% remote like other districts.

Yes, because our district is pushing for a full return with plexiglass barriers instead of 6 ft distancing and I do not believe this is safe. They refuse to offer a remote option.

This sounds like my schools plan and I am not a fan.

I prefer my elementary kids 5 days a week esp. my youngest because I feel they are too young to handle remote learning.

If we cant do that I cant stand the 3 days one week 2 days the next. They have no consideration for working parents.

i actually wrote to them to ask them why they didn't do the same days and rotate either Friday or even Wednesday. havent head back yet!

my district did not offer this but i guess enough parents complained and they today just offered it.

I am surprised Cuomo didnt make this a mandatory option. i feel like he is all for remote learning

It should be an option in this day and age and during a pandemic, no less. There is a petition circulating around online directed at Cuomo demanding a remote option for all NY schools.

Our school just announced a choice between full remote and hybrid. They changed the catch up day for full remote from Fri to Weds to be in-line iwht the hybrid folks and to make an easier transition if we have to go to full remote.

That sounds like a wise move. It’s not ideal, but I still think they all need to offer an online option for parents who aren’t comfortable for whatever reason or maybe live with elderly parents and relatives and don’t want their kid(s) bringing something home.

anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?

I like the elementary plan. 1-5 - 5 days a week full time in pods of 9-10. I haven’t researched the upper level plans, but they are probably a disorganized hot mess like most other secondary plans I have looked at. If I had a child in MS or HS there is no way I would send them.

Some schools literally do not have enough staff to have a hybrid and virtual option simultaneously.

I’m pro-teacher but someone posted here (I think it was here) the salary of a single LI superintendent… RP maybe? I’m sure that all schools have the funds to make it happen and hire staff.

I have many questions still regarding my district’s plan and can not wait for these Q&A sessions to take place. We were going offered 5 days in person or fully remote at the elementary level, but we’re locked in for the entire year once we submit our decision. I’m very torn.

Our is half day in person, half day remote, 5 days a week. So we drop off, they stay for 2 hours, we pick them up and then after an hour and a half break they have to do 3 hours of live virtual learning.

I don't know which session DD is in and have no idea when we find out.

We just moved to the district specifically for the schools. I'm flabbergasted and honestly disgusted that their plans make it completely impossible for 2 parents to work full time.

Re: anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?

Our district plan is either in school Monday Tuesday OR Thursday Friday. There is no lunch offered. All children will be fully remote on Wednesdays. If you are in school M And T you are virtual TH and F. Opposite for kids who are TH and F in school, they will be virtual M and T.. There is also a 100% virtual option. Children with Special Needs have the ability to go to in school four days a week, with Wednesday being the remote cleaning day. School will go from 7:30 am to 1 pm for the middle and high school and 8:30 to 2 for elementary students, We only had to choose for the first semester which is until November and then we can switch if desired.

I have no kids in MS or HS but from what I see on FB almost all parents of those students want them back 5 days a week. They are starting petitions and independent meetings to come up with demands for the superintendent to insist on FT.

I understand the reasoning behind the elementary kids to go full time with working parents but the older kids need to be in school too. They didn’t do well either distance learning. I am hoping if they do start them off like that it won’t be long until they are back 5 days. We haven’t heard back yet from our district.

They might want it, but it’s not safe especially at large schools. My school would have over 2500 kids in the building. One cafeteria section last year had over 500 students in it.

I stand by my statement that if my son was in MS/HS, I would have him do remote learning. They are making no effort to keep the kids in small pods. There will be 15 students per class who will circulate independently of one another.

anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?

My district is full return pre-k through 6 5 full days as is the middle school and high school. There is a hybrid option with the kids in school but the district didn’t elaborate much on it as they feel it won’t be necessary. If it’s all remote it’s Monday- Thursday full day real time teaching with Friday open for emotional support, extra help etc. there are some modifications in schedules but nothing too significant. I think they did a great job. In my district many parents are upset that there isn’t an option for in person or remote at the choice of the parent. They just sent out a parent survey regarding this so I think they will end up following through on a plan to facilitate both with the schools fully reopening and offering a full live option. I guess we will see. My boys were in a private pre school. They are staying home this year as they have one more year of pre-k before heading to kindergarten
