Anyone watching the press conference about the Taconic crash right now?
Its on as breaking news---the husband of the women who drove and his attorney are having a press conference right now!

Intersting that they won't answer any questions that have to do with the pot.
I'm wondering if something will come out about their marriage and it sent her over the edge.
Total speculation...but something had to happen to make her do this.

I "think" it had something to do with what the husband does for work. Did they mention that he was some type of officer?
How was someone driving along side of her when she was driving the wrong way?

well they mentioned that he's some type of public safety officer for Suffolk County.
But the question of marijuana in her system isn't about HIM its about her--so I don't get why the attorney said that marijuana use is NOT a crime.

I don't know that anything made her do this at all. Very likely she was an alcoholic or mentally ill or both. No one else would drive around drunk that early in the day with a carful of children. I can think of no other explanation. I don't see this as a suicide mission either, though I think you could argue most alcoholics are on a very slow suicide mission.
Lots of people have marriages that suck, but they don't do this. Maybe they drink themselves silly at home, but that's different. I won't heap blame on him, at least not until I hear more of the story. Perhaps he should have known not to let her get these children, but if she was not actively drinking for awhile, he may have trusted her to do this. We really don't know enough.
I'm not saying he's a saint, or he wasn't involved in some way, but she was the one who chose to drink and smoke--I don't think anyone forced it on her.

I was watching Channel 12 earlier and they had a clip of the DH's attorney saying she had a medical issue that MADE her drink...um...can't wait to hear that one..unless she was an alcoholic...then i can see since it's considered a disease...but there's also lots of alcoholics who get help & don't need to drink. The whole thing is just bizarre.

I think he's grasping at straws. You are right, technically alcoholics will drink and drink irresponsibly. But this doesn't excuse what she did.
She could also have a mental disorder, many people drink or use drugs to deal with that. But again, not really an excuse.

he started by saying that she had an abscess for two months and refused to go to a dentist. then he said she had different levels of diabetes. then he said she had a lump on her leg. every time anything was asked about whether she drank or about the bottle of vodka found in her car, the answer was that it was not possible. for someone who never drank she sure learned how to in that short period of time.
this press conference was pathetic. as soon as i heard who their attorney was i knew this would turn into a sideshow. he didnt disappoint. they know a civil law suit is coming so they needed to try to get in front of it. i dont think they made it any better. just the opposite. they came across as fools and coverup artists.

I am sure more and more information about both of them are going to come out.
What I want to know is where she was for the four hours inbetween the time she left the camp grounds to the time she had the accident. It doesn't take 4 hours to go 140 miles unless you are in traffic (which she wasn't).

I spoke to a few recovering alcoholics and they feel bad for the woman (i know its sad) but they told me if your an alcoholic you have no control of your life. You will do anything to pacify that inner voice. You allow yourself to destroy everything in your life because you simply can't stop the urge to drink. BUT saying that they said they never drank a bottle of vodka with a bunch of kids in the car. they have over drank at bars/parties/home and gone out thinking they were fine and even sometimes with the kids but never kept drinking in the car (which is bad enough.) Their family never stopped them from doing this, they enabled it by ignoring the problem. Most family ignore a sickness like that until it is too late or the person takes responsibility for their inner demons and become sober.
The more I hear about what is being release, she might of had a abscess and treated it with vodka (i have done this with whiskey but not when driving) she took one sip, couldn't stop, drank it all and didn't care the kids were there because it was normal for her. Her husband might of know but been in denial - who knows? NO one thinks this is going to happen to them, that is why people drink and drive all the time they simply do not think anything bad will happen to them. Selfish, sick and delusional.

I was thinking the same thing. That *might* explain the drinking but it still doesn't explain the pot.
Bottom line, IMO she was reckless and completely disregarded her life and more importantly the life of those children.

The trip takes about 3.5 hours. I drive that route every few months - Holbrook to Liberty. The accident happened about 2 hours into the trip. Add in the time for breakfast at McDonalds, there still is an hour unaccounted for.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that he is even in the picture at this point.
He had absolutely NOTHING to do with this car crash. Even if he was boozing it up with her and smoking, he had nothing to do with that crash. And the even thought of the DA possibly calling a grand jury to discuss the idea of criminally charging him makes me ill.
That's like me and my friend going out for drinks. I take a cab home. She drives home and kills somebody. Then the DA looking to charge me because I didn't take the keys from her. Ridiculous.
Slippery slope here.

ITA too!! The Attorney is pathetic.. This will be turned into a side show. He hasnt had any big cases in quite sometime.. I can see he jumped on this one.. I can see how his wife threw a bowl of macaroni in his face.. he is so obnoxiuos.

I agree. Many people have pain issues/mental issues. But once your issues become someone else's, there is NO excuse for innocent victims to pay the price for YOUR problem. Bottom line.
