Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
Am I going in over my head? DD is 10.5 months and is ultra rambuctious...I'm also extremely type A and need to make everything from scratch, I don't like store bought anything...we'll be having like 10-15 people...Am I nuts?

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I just made dinner from scratch for a 1st birthday party...We had about 20 people. They kept DS entertained while I finished cooking.

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I don't cook Thanksgiving, but if I did and my DH was around then I would totally still do. DH could watch our DS while I was in the kitchen cooking.
Also, don't be afraid to ask others to bring stuff so its less you have to make.

see I know I'll have help the day of, but I like doing all my prep work and even do some things the day before and just literally have the turkey and stuffing to make the next day....I guess it's doable...I just can so see myself setting something on fire while I put DD down for a nap

my MIL offered to buy something, she doesn't cook and the stuff she normally buys is usually c r a p...my mom works full time and offered to make a few things which is great....i don't trust anyone else making anything, DH's side of the family doesn't really know how to operate the kitchen... DH won't be around the day before...my main concern is really the day before and the prep work

I made Thanksgiving for 30 people last year and DD was 7 months old. I was lucky to have a lot of help. I also started two days before. You can peel potatos for mashed potatos and stuff up to two days in advanced if needed.

This Thanksgiving we are having it at our house but everyone is bringing something. I am too stressed out with my 3 year old and the baby to cook.

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I had Christmas for about 15 ppl when DS #1 was 6 months old, and will have it again this year with a 2.5 y/o and a 2 month old. It's all in your personality. I cooked everything, decorated, etc and it was no problem at all. I like doing it.

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
We did Xmas the last 2 years and are doing Thanksgiving this year. As long as you plan ahead and your DH either helps with the preparation or watches DD for you - it will be fine.

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I am that way too and I have done Thanksgiving pretty much every year since I had my six year old (and four year old). I'm doing it this year and I have an eight month old. You're not crazy!

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I've been hosting Thanksgiving for the past 9 years, I did it last year at 7.5 months pregnant and will do it this year with a 9.5 month old. We are only having our immediate family (parents, grandmother and siblings = 30 people!)
I decided we are NOT doing a sit down meal this year, I will make it buffet style.
My MIL is going to come the day before and help with DD so I can cook.
ETA: I do everything from scratch too!

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
Not an infant, but we did Thanksgiving last year when DD was 14 months.
DH did all the cooking and we both cleaned the day before. He also prepped what he could the night before, onions, celery, etc. It was fine.
Good luck

I wish I could do buffet but my dog will end up eating most of the food and everyone will go home hungry

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
DW always does Thanksgiving in our extended family. DS was about 6 months one year, and 3 years later, he was 3.5, and DD was 6 months.
For DW, it actually *helped* her.... she doesn't like it when too many people try to "help" her in the kitchen, so with an infant in the house, everyone is focused on DC, and not DW in the kitchen....

this is me, I hate them "helping" in the kitchen when honestly they're just in my way...LOL

Re: Anyone with an infant actually make thanksgiving???
I did it last year when DS was 6 months old and I was 12 weeks pregnant. DH watched the baby, my parents and in laws came over early to help, and some people bought sides. It worked out great! We are doing it again this year, in our new house, with an 18 month old and a 6 month old. Good luck!
