anyones dc have allergic reaction to antibiotics?

I'm not sure anymore if it's whatever virus my dd has or the antibiotics....
Last night she was running a temp again and has had a rash on her chest/belly/cheeks. I stopped the antibiotic yesterday and this morning she feels much better(other than still being congested)Chat Icon
She was on amoxicillan and wasn't getting better so they switched to omnicef. I'm getting tired of calling the dr. and waiting for a call back Chat Icon

Re: anyones dc have allergic reaction to antibiotics?

My son had a reaction like that the first night on amoxicilin. He was on it for the first time last month. My BIL is a pharmacist and it was after hours so he told us to stop right away and give him benadryl (it's okay to mix the two)... the next day I spoke with his ped. and she told us to give him half dose, wait an hour or 2 and if no reaction, give the other half - after that it was okay for Michael - except one more rash.

It takes a day or two for their systems to get used to the medication.

Unfortunately she will need to finish our the entire prescription, so I would wait to hear back from her ped.

I hope she's better soon!

yes just last month my dd had a reaction to her augentin, which has a penicillan base. she was covered completly in head to toe ichy major hives.i called her doc immediatly.and he told me she was infact having an allergic reaction. we stopped the augmentin immediatly and waited for the hives to clear up and they started her on a new non-penicillan antibotic.
