Anyone's doctor refuse to tell gender with Verifi or other nipt?

Hi ladies. I'm going to the dr on Feb 24 to get my blood drawn for Verifi. When I called Verifi/Progenity for information about the test, they told me that the test only tells gender if the doctor orders it. I haven't seen the doctor since I had that conversation. When I go on the 24th, I'll ask her whether we will find out the gender with the results. But I'm dying to know if I will be able to know or not. I did some googling and saw that a few people stated that their doctors would not order the gender. Those people seemed to be in the minority. Anyone have that happen to them, where the doctor will not order the gender on these tests? What is the reason for that? I don't want to get my hopes up that I am going to know gender in a few weeks if it's not the case.

I have never heard of that! If anything, my dr's mentioned it as a selling point in getting the test done. I am so I didn't want to know but when they called with the results the nurse seemed anxious to share the sex of the baby with me.

You know that's the problem with googling stuff. You can find the one or two people that some weird thing happened to, and then you think it will happen to you. I have a son already. I don't know if I'm more eager for him to have a brother or for us to have a little girl. Either way I'm just so eager to know.

We did verifi and we had to specifically ask for the gender. We went to the genetic counselor a at north shore, at my obs request. We had a sit down and they went over every little thing we could test for and we select the ones we wanted. The gender one isn't just to tell gender, in fact it's a bonus. Our counselor explained to us they can tell if there is another x or Y chromosome and that can tell if they will be more prone to a learning disorder, or even be infertile. Very interesting.

I remember wondering the same thing as I waited to get my Verifi results back... but when the doctor called with the results he had the gender & also I saw the results on peper... the test did check the sex chromosomes not just to see what they were but to make sure they were normal as well. When I had the blood drawn for it the doctor never mentioned being able to tell gender, but I guess he did order it. I think they normally do.

My dr had nothing to do with the gender part of the test. I met with a genetic counselor right before the test and she asked if we wanted to know. Then, when she called with the results, she asked again, and then told us. I don't know why your dr would have to order it. With this test they are looking at every chromosome anyway, so they can obviously tell the gender, whether or not your dr specifically asks.

Dr. asked me if I wanted to know-wasn't an issue at all. i didn't even know they could tell that from the test. i didn't find out b.c this one is a surprise.

Is verifi a newer test? Do you have to be high risk, (35 and over, etc.) to ask for it or is it a standard test now for every pregnancy? This is my 4th pregnancy and my other three they did test my blood for chromosomal abnormalities around 11-12 weeks, but I don't think it was called Verifi and I did not find out the gender. I would LOVE to find out the gender so early on. I go to the doctor nest week and I will ask her.
