Anyone's OB prescribe Bactrim for a UTI?

I either have my 3rd UTI, or the 1st one never went away. I have taken 2 other antibiotics before. This time, my OB prescribed Bactrim - I am now researching it online, and it is not recommended for pregnant women. Should I call my dr tomorrow?? I don't want to question her, but I also don't want to hurt the baby.

I actually went through this same thing in my 2nd trimester. I had never heard of it, so I went online and checked it out and got a little worried. If I'm not mistaken, it's a Category C (am I right about that?).

I called my OB to make sure it wasn't a mistake, and she said that it's the only thing she prescribes for UTI. I know other girls have taken it as well.

I think it's ok Chat Icon

I just had a severe UTI and was in the hospital. My doc prescribed Keflex.

ETA: This is a category B medication.

I wouldn't worry about questioning the doctor. If you have a concern, i think you should ask your dr. Your health and peace of mind comes before anything.

your uti may only be sensitive to bactrim so the benefits out weighs the risk of taking it. bynot taking it you could get a bad kidney infection be in the hospital etc.....

But if you're not sure call in the morning

I think that's what it is. When I spoke to my doctor on friday, I told her that I was nervous since this infection won't seem to go away. And she did mention that it was a certain kind of bacteria - I guess that's why she prescribed this medication. I guess I need to trust her and that she wouldn't prescribe me something that would hurt the baby.

Re: Anyone's OB prescribe Bactrim for a UTI?

If its prescribed by your OB i'm assuming she prescribed this because it seems like you can't completely get rid of the UTI.

I know you have to becareful with UTI's and pregnancy because tehy can lead to kidney infections which can cause pre-term contractions. She probably choose something stronger to see if it will kill teh "bug"

Never hurts to ask though!

Feel better...I hope you get rid of it.

I would also see how she feels about pro-biotics (accidopholus) to try and prevent/minimize a yeast infection from the anti-biotics.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe you should tell the dr. that it is making you sick.
