Anything you can do if DC is exposed to swine flu?
We had my DD's baptism this weekend and my brother was the godfather. They left on Sunday and that day he started getting sick. Doctors think it's the swine flu. He was around me and DD alot. Now I am so worried. I am breastfeeding, is there anything we should do preventative? I know if you were exposed during pregnancy, they would tell you to take medication just in case, but I wasn't sure if that was the same for after. She's only 3 months, so I worry.

Re: Anything you can do if DC is exposed to swine flu?
There was a post on here last week saying to gargle with salt water or Listerine. I know the baby can't do that but you can so maybe you won't get it. Also, you can use salt water (or the saline drops) in DD's nose, and yours too, to flush the virus out of there. The only way the virus can get into your system is through the mouth or nose, so keep it less likely for the virus to be able to proliferate and you can help stop the infection. I guess if nothing else, it can't hurt.

my dd was potentially exposed to it at day care (my sitter's dd had it) and I took her to the ped
since we have a NB in the home, they gave miki tamiflu as a preventative measure
she was fine, never got sick

I would agree, the saline drops probably wouldn't hurt, and certainly wash DCs clothes in hot water (and toys if any were exposed).
Other than that, not much. Just wait and see.

Re: Anything you can do if DC is exposed to swine flu?
When it first started back in May DS and I (pregnant) were exposed to the swine flu. I called the ped and my OB and they both did NOT recc taking the medicine preventatively and just said to ride it out and treat the symptoms when the come. Thank god we were both fine.
But, DS was 21 months at the time. I would DEFINITELY call my ped's office - tell them DC was exposed to see what they say. And, of course, make sure you get lots of sleep and eat very healthy etc...
Sending you lots of and that you will all be fine and not get it!
