my dh may have been exposed to swine flu
After ignoring the "hype" for weeks, I almost feel silly even mentioning this, but I have to admit that I'm nervous...and I don't want to vent to my parents or IRL friends & worry them.
It looks like a woman that works p/t for my dh & her son may both have the swine flu. At this point nothing has been officially confirmed (their test results from the CDC were delayed due to the holiday) and their medication is working, so no one is panicking or anything just yet, but according to the hospital/their docs there is a very real chance that the son has it (they quarantined him at the hospital for a few days this weekend before sending him home to recover there).
My dh's office is big & he has desks in there for his part-timers...and unfortunately, the woman (a single mom who was in a bind) brought her son to work with her on Thursday night. For a brief period of time (15-20 min) they were both in there w/my dh & then they worked out of there for several hours after he left...the boy was admitted to the hospital the next day w/a temp of 105 & the mom broke out w/it on Sunday night.
So far no one else is sick at his job & other than seasonal allergies we both feel fine, but based on what their doctors told them my dh & I might not display symptoms up to 7 days after exposure, which means that we have no idea what's going on until their tests are back or if we make it to Thursday ok. My dh's boss told him to work from home for now until they sterilize his office & confirm that it's not the s/f so that's good, but I'm starting to get scared. Realistically I know that the chances that we have it are very, VERY small, but I worry about my & sometimes it starts to get to me Thanks for letting me get that all out...I'm fine most of the time, but I've been freaking out every now & then the past 2 days

Re: my dh may have been exposed to swine flu
Thanks Tara It's so stupid, I know...it's probably nothing or, even if it is, we're more than likely not infected...it's just that it's so close to home now that I can't help but worry

Re: my dh may have been exposed to swine flu
I have been worried about this as well.
My sister had some kind of "flu" 2 weeks ago. They didnt swab her so we don't know which it was, but it was most likely swine.
I had been with her mother's day and then she came down with it on monday. I FREAKED!!!!
I did call the dr and I was told that if I was exposed, I could come down with symptoms almost immediately. That is how it seems to be.
She thinks she was exposed on a Friday (she is a school teacher and took kids on a trip to bronx zoo with 100s of other schools there) and then came down with it Monday morning. SO that is about a 3 day incubation period.
So if your DH was exposed on Thursday than most likely by now he would be showing symptoms, which from your post it sounds like he isn't.
you can only get it if he has it, from what I understand. I dont think people are being carriers of it, but we were told that they are contagious from a day before symptoms start. This is why I got so nervous bc I was with my sister when she was perfectly fine the day before she got sick.
My dr told me that if by tues I didnt come down with anything most likely i wouldnt. It is over 2 weeks now and I am ok (knock on wood please!)
I hope this helps you!!!
Take vitamin C and WASH YOUR HANDS ALOT!!!
You are most likely in the clear.

Oh boy!! It's scary when it's that close to you right? It's so odd how you can't get a straight answer from anyone about the incubation period. Our research online yielded little info about that, but the docs at the hospital said it's usually immediately, but can take up to 7 days to present. We were like "What?!?" He's definitely got a type A strain of the flu & the symptoms presented exactly like the s/w, but luckily he's feeling better now that he's on the Relenza...the poor kid was so sick
