Apparently I will get PG if I adopt a puppy...
So, I go to my regular doctor today because I am not feeling well - sinus and ear infection. I tell her that I had an IUI 12 days ago and while I don't think I am PG, there is an outside chance I am so I need an antibiotic that is safe in case I am.
This of course leads into a whole slew of questions about my IF issues. I tell her that essentially I am dealing with unexplained IF and she brings up the whole idea about how "stress" can contribute - which was kind of funny because there just was a thread about it.
Now, I have often wondered if my somewhat stressful job (I work a lot of hours) is having an effect on my unexplained IF. But I am sure it is not the sole cause of my problems.
Here's the best part, she tells me that may be it would be a good idea for DH and I to adopt a puppy because then we would have something to love and would not be focusing on our IF issues. And then, we would get PG!
Look, I get the idea that it's good to do things that make you happy and to do things that get your mind off of IF issues.
But seriously, am I magically going to bet PG because I adopt a puppy

Oh please tell me you're kidding LOL Oh people never cease to amaze me. I'm sure she meant well but c'mon now!! I'm all for adopting puppies...I love my big fat puppy with all my heart but I really dont think my dog has made me any more fertile.

We have a dog and we're not pregnant!
It's really interesting to hear the things that people say!
DH was on the phone with his aunt and she asked why we don't have kids yet (PS - we're both under 30 and have been married for just over a year) and when DH told her that we were waiting (we're keeping our IF to ourselves) she said that we were "lazy."
I'm just thinking "If only she knew... "
Sometimes people just have no clue!

I don't believe the stress theory. I got pregnant without even a month of trying when I was sick with strep throat, just had my wedding, had a stressful honeymoon and was working in a high stress litigation firm.
I moved to a government job where billable hours are nonexistent and my life is pretty damn close to stress-free, and now I can't seem to get pregnant.
So, my point, don't go running out to buy a puppy just yet

Sometimes people just have no clue!
I'm sure his aunt is a very nice person but people really need to keep their comments to themselves when they have NO IDEA what they're talking about

I know she meant well, but she could not seriously believe that a puppy would solve our problem!!!
She also suggested yoga and mediation, but those were secondary to adopting a puppy

I adopted 2 and I've gotten pregnant but not actually given birth...so much for that theory. Maybe I need a bigger dog?? DH would One of mine is 110 lbs now.

I was just telling my DH we should adopt a 2nd dog because if we do, it's only a matter of time before I get pg and I am completely overwhelmed - that's they way my life works!!!

I think she got the puppy theory wrong. Its more for when people aren't sure they want to have kids. Buy a puppy and it changes them and then they think they are ready for kids.
Though maybe I could get a puppy out of this.... DH doesn't like dogs (even though he wont admit it, they don't like him either, gets bit all the time).
Well, everyone does try to help us in the most unusual way. We should have a poll about the strangest advice offered. I bet it would be really funny.

I've heard one success story so far........actually pregnant w/ twins. They put TTC on the backburner.......got a puppy.......and Bam. LOL

I had unexplained IF for over a year and all the relaxing and pets in the world did not help me get PG. It would make me so angry when people told me to "relax and it will happen." I am sorry you have to deal with these moronic comments. Stick to your plans and trust your instincts.

We have a furbaby for 2 years and the one before him we had for 15 years. I pregnancy that ended in mc.
perhaps ill open up a doggie shelter!

Didn't work for me! I was pg in Jan. 07 when I got my puppy. Lost the baby March of 2007 and still struggling to get pg again!

The fact that your doctor told you this is SCARY!!!!
I did get pregnant shortly after getting my puppy. I call him my good luck dog, but I seriously cannot say that I got pg because of him.

Dumb dumb dumb ( although we did do the puppy thing to take our minds off the IF and it worked , gave us something to think about KWIM?) I was under the most stress imaginable and got PG. I hate that stress statement.
Its based on the whole stress increases cortisol, which decreases immune system and an optimum immune system is needed to get PG.
But Most people who feeled"stressed" still dont have the amount needed to affect them that badly.
Its a bit annoying anf condescending IMO when people say that.

Yeah, we tried that! I miscarried in january, got not one, but 2 puppies in March, got pg in April and miscarried again.
Here I am, with 2 pups and no babies!
it is so amazing what people will say to you. My favorite is to relax. I swear, I am going to lose it one day on someone who says it to me. I want to be like, OH REALLY, IS THAT ALL I NEED TO DO?
