Are stainless steel fridge doors magnetic?
I bought the Frigidaire stainless steel smudgeless fridge and was pleasantly surprised that the doors are magnetic.
I thought that wasn't possible... or are my doors not truly stainless steel? Hm....

No they are not. I have the same finish on my fridge I also had the really deal I love this one no finger prints and much easier to clean.

My LG and GE stainless steel appliances are not magnetic. But the side of the fridge is magnetic, the front is not.

if its magnetic, its not real stainless steel, its a stainless steel finish (which is aweome because it looks like it, but without the finger smudges!)

Stainless steel CAN be magnetic by nature
since it's an alloy, but the alloy used for most appliances isn't magnetic. It's also very possible that a magnetic "SS" fridge isn't really SS.

Answer: There are several "types" of stainless steel. The 300 series (which contains nickel) is NOT magnetic. The 400 series (which just contains chromium and no nickel) ARE magnetic.

Depending on the grade of stainless is what would determine if it's magnetic. The better grades aren't. If a real SS surface is scratched it can be restored. A finish with a clearcoat can not be restored.
