steel versus fiberglass doors?
I am looking to replace my front door and I noticed that steel is cheaper than fiberglass... but does anyone know if there is a big difference between the two? TIA!

Re: steel versus fiberglass doors?
I have two steel doors that are over 15 years old (installed before I bought the house), and they both have surface rust. The fiberglass doors I installed two years ago won't rust. They also look just like wood, which steel doors won't do. If you want them painted a solid color, that's not as much of an issue.

Re: steel versus fiberglass doors?
i think when we were looking, the guy also said something about fiberglass retaining heat a little better than the steel, which is better for the winter months...

Re: steel versus fiberglass doors?
Fiberglass doors can have more of a woodgrain look. Also, they are completely maintenance free.
Steel - depending on the thickness of the door, it may or may not have a better insulation rating than fiberglass. They are harder to install and are prone to rusting in certain climates.
But they apparently are neck and neck in a lot of areas.
For us, it became and about how the door looked. We went with fiberglass and love our door.

My steel door is called "stainable steel". It has woodgrains in it and looks like wood.

Re: steel versus fiberglass doors?
we went with steel, mainly because of the price. my mom has had her steel door for over 20 years and it's still in pretty good condition!
