Are taxes in Levittown really THAT high??

I know taxes are super high all throughout Nassau. I was looking at homes in Levittown and prices are so reasonable! However, I *heard* taxes are very high. I pay almost $11,000 in taxes now and and trying to steer away from that! Is it true that taxes there are this high? I know they have a wonderful school district, which may make it worth it.

$11,000 for Levittown is about right. But they have the highest STAR in Nassau I think, and you end up paying around mid-9000's.

But from all accounts the school district keeps getting better and better.

Yeah, that's around what I have heard. I know it's a nice area, good schools, closer to city- but I've been to homes in Levittown that are tiny little capes on a postage stamp sized property. It's crazy to me, but that's LI for ya.

They surprisingly don't have a lot of commercial business. A lot of Hemp Turnpike is Island Trees and a lot of OCR is Hicksville, so the burden falls on the residents.

You may find taxes in the Island Trees SD in Levittown are *slightly* lower- they are offset by Kohls and the other businesses along the Turnpike- Levittown SD has less retail/industry. Unfortunately, I think a lot of places with comparable priced homes will have crazy high taxes, give or take a little $$$.

Re: Are taxes in Levittown really THAT high??

The reason why taxes are high is because of Town of Hempstead. It's a fortune. You have a lot of towns within that township that are not the best areas and hence, you are paying for that.... Not intended to offend but it's true. Wiki the Town of Hempstead town list and you pick out a WHOLE bunch of towns that are driven by crime, welfare, etc. It's paid for by taxpayers...

My taxes are less than 10K but we are in Island Trees. It is true that the stores on Hempstead Turnpike are zoned to Island Trees, so our taxes are lower than Levittown's.

Yup!! That's about how ours breaks down.

As for the schools, DD is in middle school and I have nothing bad at all to say about it!!

My property is 60x100 which for a straight lined property (mid block, not on a curve) is standard for Levittown. It is bigger then my families property in Hicksville (50x100) and Elmont (40x100) although not as big as some properties I know of in massapequa and seaford that are 70/80 x 110/120. Unfortunately unless you go out to Suffolk most of nassau is smaller properties. Minus the more exclusive neighborhoods.

Thanks so much. It's worth a try looking at some properties. Just scary how taxes can rise so fast out of nowhere! Suffolk is nice but too far for DH who is NYPD.

It depends on where in Levittown. I have seen anywhere from $7000-$11000... It is crazy!

This is the same for us. When we were looking for a house I noticed a big difference between the two SDs, even though both were in Levittown.

Re: Are taxes in Levittown really THAT high??

We have lived in Levittown, south side of hempstead tpke since 2005. We love it here. We have a great block.. It is really quiet. The taxes are high but taxes in nassau county are high anyway. We have a fully dormered home and we are paying $10600. Thats with star and grieing. Thats not bad. There is a house for sale on my blk and one for sale on my friends block. Glade lane. Both are zoned for salk...and mac arthur. The house on my block is $279k. Short sale
